A pool of 200 potential jurors has been summoned for a murder trial that will begin this morning in Batesville.
Derrick Burdette, 21, is charged in the shooting death of Herman Smith, 54.
Smith was shot January 26, 2011, while he sat in a car at Still Trailer Park, authorities have said. He was transported to The Med in Memphis, where he later died.
Burdette was arrested by sheriff’s deputies the day after the shooting.
Smith’s death last year marked Batesville’s first homicide since 2008.
Assistant District Attorney Jay Hale is presenting the state’s case against Burdette. The trial judge is Smith Murphy.
