The snow covered ground only kept one defendant from appearing before Judge Jay Westfaul in Wednesday’s session of Batesville Municipal Court.
No ice covered the roads, but a defendant sent a text message to the city’s court clerk saying she could not be in court due to the weather.
Tonya Morris, 93 Scoggins Rd., Pope, did not come to court but did have a shoplifting charge dismissed after the affiant, Sandra Helton of Family Dollar, failed to appear to prosecute.
Marilyn Kelley, 2913 Hwy. 178, Mooreville, was referred to the grand jury on a grand larceny charge.
Larry D. Sanford, 25 Ruby Rd., Courtland, entered a guilty plea to DUI-second, driving while license suspended, abusing members of police and no proof of insurance. He was fined $2,856.
Devilon Ards, 217 Patterson, Batesville, was fined $650 for possession of marijuana in a vehicle.
Raymond Delgiorno, Rough and Ready, Calif., paid fines of $420 prior to court for simple possession of marijuana.
James K. McGhee, 134 Patton Lane, Batesville, was fined $1,054 after entering guilty pleas to possession of marijuana in a vehicle, driving while license suspended and no seat belt. He had a no proof of insurance ticket continued.
Latoris Brown, 208 Claude, Batesville, entered a not guilty plea to simple possession of marijuana. A trial was set for January 11.
Amber Landis, 1758 Sardis Lake Dr., Batesville, entered a guily plea to petit larceny. She was fined $325.
Detrick Porter, 207 Magnolia, Sardis, was fined $204 for public drunk. He also had old fines of $566 that have been due since October 2010. MDOC had a hold on Porter. The fines are due 30 days after his release, the judge said.
Vande Moering, 4063-B Barnacre, Sardis, was fined $700 for domestic violence-simple and simple assault.
Gerald Dooley, 103 Dickey Dr., Batesville, was fined $1,732 for DUI-other, speeding, possession of marijuana in a vehicle and no proof of insurance.
James Baker, 113 Field St., Batesville, had old fines of $956 that have been due since July 2010.
He told the judge he would have the fines paid off in two weeks.
Thomas Turner, 181 Linker St., Batesville, had a careless driving charge held for six months. He was represented by attorney Ron Lewis.
Bobby Legge, 8084 Eureka Road, Courtland, had a case of reckless driving continued.
