BATESVILLE – Olivia “Aunt Monk” Bean, 89, died Thursday, September 8, 2011 at Tri-Lakes Medical Center.

Services will be held Saturday, September 17, at Macedonia M. B. Church at 1 p.m. Rev. Zannie Leland Jr. will officiate. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held Friday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Eddie Robinson Funeral Home.

She was born April 27, 1922 to the late Mister and Rosie Elizabeth Bean in Batesville. She attended Panola County schools and was a member of Macedonia M. B. Church where she was on the mother board, a former Sunday School teacher and choir member.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Hayes Hudson.

Survivors include an adopted son and caregiver, Jeffery Bean of Batesville; two sisters Leatha Bean of Batesville and Dytis Vance of Chicago; one brother Master Bean Jr. of Courtland; and three grandchildren.

Michael Ray Grant

PORT ORANGE, Fla. – Michael Ray Grant, 42, died Friday, September 9, 2011, in Halifax Medical Center in Port Orange.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Grant was born Aug. 14, 1969, in Memphis, to Lawrence and Teresa Little Grant of Batesville.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, A. D. and Deverline Grant of Batesville, Robert Thurman Little of Booneville and Allie Barnes Little Berryman of Booneville.

Survivors, in addition to his parents, include: his wife, Mary Felton Grant of Port Orange; three sons, Adam Grant, Cody Grant and Dylan Grant, all of Port Orange; one sister, Deverlin Grant of Batesville; and one brother, Scotty Gant of Chicago.

Paul Rayburn Henderson

CRENSHAW – Paul Rayburn Henderson, 72, died September 10, 2011 at his home.  

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, September 13, 2011 at 11 a.m. at Crenshaw Methodist Church with Bro. Mike Labosso officiating. Burial will follow in Longtown Cemetery.  Ray-Nowell Funeral Home – Senatobia Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Henderson attended Crenshaw Methodist Church and was a member of the Lions Club.  

He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Ann Hawkins Henderson.  

He is survived by his wife, Dianne D. Henderson of Crenshaw; one daughter, Paula Broome of Brandon; one sister, Donna Massey of West Memphis, Ark.; three brothers, Steve Henderson of Sarah, Gary Henderson of Askew, and Sam Henderson of Byhalia.

The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society, the Panola County Humane Society or a charity of the donor’s choice.

OXFORD – Jacob “Jake” McBride Jr., 86, widower of Bonnie Lou Finnie McBride, died Friday, Sept. 9, 2011, at the MS State Veterans Home in Oxford.

Mass of Christian Service was held Sunday 9/11/11 at Wells Funeral Home with Father Joe Tonos and Reverend Gerald Walker officiating. Burial was in Goodhope Baptist Church Cemetery.

McBride was born on September 25, 1924, in Egan, La. to the late Clarisse Bossley and Jacob McBride.
He attended the U.S. Military Academy at West Point prior to serving in both Europe and the Pacific during World War II.

McBride graduated from Louisiana State University with a degree in Civil Engineering. He operated McBride Engineering Company in Batesville for 50 years. He served as Batesville City Engineer, as well as the City Engineer for Senatobia and the County Engineer for both Panola and Tate Counties. Serving the community as its Engineer and in public service roles such as President of the Batesville Chamber of Commerce, he was instrumental in the recruitment of large-scale industry to the community. He was a communicant of St. Mary’s Community Catholic Church.

Survivors include a daughter Benecia McBride Tuthill of Arlington, Va.; one son Warner Finnie McBride of Courtland;. five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
