Bratz cannot capitalize in rematch with Heat

In a rematch of the championship game from the Dizzy Dean Bash, the tide turned on the Batesville Bratz 8 and under softball team.

In the Bash two weeks ago, the Bratz won by a narrow one-point margin. However, Hernando Heat went home, revamped, ironed out some rough spots and went through the tournament undefeated, 4-0.

Batesville started the tournament defeating Senatobia Sneaky Cleats 15-1.

Hot hitters for the Bratz were Isabella Morrow with a three-run triple, Lucy Lipscomb and Dayle Reed each with a two-run double.

In the second round of the tournament, Batesville and Hernando met Friday afternoon.

Hernando’s defense rendered the Batesville bats null and void and finished with an 11-3 win which dropped the Bratz to the losers’ bracket. Scoring for Batesville were Lipscomb, Jaiden Greene and McCarlie Burchfield.

Saturday morning, Batesville got back on the winning side with a win over Pontotoc Nationals which set up a faceoff of the Batesville teams.

Batesville Bratz and the Batesville 7 and under Blast took the field in an elimination game and a chance to play for the championship. The Bratz eliminated the Blast 13-3.

The Bratz had one more game to play to get to the championship round. Sunday afteroon, the Bratz and Southaven Slammers met in game one.

In four innings, Batesville run-ruled the Slammers each inning for a 20-9 win.

The first five batters hit and scored for Batesville in the first inning, Tristen Goddard, Greene, Griffin Rico, Morrow and Lipscomb. Two runs came by a double from Kaitlin Tidwell.

Reed, Luana Denta, Brinley Locke, Burchfield and Goddard were responsible for the five runs in the second inning.

Rico and Morrow scored in the third on a single by Lipscomb. Lipscomb scored on a passed ball. Reed and Dent rounded out the scoring in the third on a two-run single by Burchfield.

In the fourth and final inning, the top of the lineup was flawless for the Bratz. With the bases loaded, Goddard and Greene scored on a two run single by Morrow. Rico and Morrow scored ona  two run double by Lipscomb. Lipscomb came home on a  Tidwell single.

In the championship game mid Sunday afternoon, Hernando jumped to a 4-1 lead after the first inning and the game 10-4.

Batesville scored one run when Katelynn Atkinson grounded out to third, but drove home Lipscomb for the score. Hernando was relentless and took an 8-1 lead in the third while holding Batesville scoreless the third and fourth innings.

As the temperatures heated up in the late afternoon sun, Hernando was trying to put the game away and scored one run in the fifth inning for the 8-1 lead. Batesville had to score at least three runs to force a sixth inning and hold Hernando scoreless to be able to get another batting session in.

Batesville scored three runs in the fifth inning. Mary Grace Dickerson doubled and scored on a Reed double. Burchfield and Goddard also scored for Batesville.

Hernando loaded the bases in the sixth with no outs and the winning run scored on a single.

The 8 and under Bratz will play in the World Series next week in Southaven.
