In the opening game of the day the second and third place teams at American Legion baseball battled it out Monday.

The Red Sox defeated the A’s 6-5 to remain in second but it was a battle to the end. In bottom of the second the Red Sox scored two runs when Carter Avery and Clay Harbour scored. Avery was hit by a pitch and Harbour walked to get on base.

The Red Sox continued the pace in the third when they added three runs with Chase Durham, Adam Cook and Cameron Brown scoring. Durham and Cook both singled while Brown doubled.

What looked as if the Red Sox had the game wrapped up took a turn in the top of the fifth when the A’s scored five runs to tie the game.

Scoring runs were Scott Taylor, Jessie Durham, Ty Campbell, Austin Epps and Colton Cook, who all singled.

The Red Sox had a 5-4 lead when Dustin Redwine doubled sending Cook home to tie the game.

In bottom of the sixth Tristen Tutor drew a walk and came home later for the winning run.

In the second game of the night the first place Royals had no problem keeping their ranking after defeating the fourth place Yankees 10-2 in five innings.

The Yankees scored their two runs in bottom of the second when Morgan Tubbs, who was hit by a pitch, later crossed home plate and Hunter Cook drew a walk and later scored the second run.

The Royals scored three runs in top of third with Landon Fullilove, Tyler Babb and Hammer Hankins scoring. Fullilove singled while Babb and Hankins drew walks.

The game took a huge turn in top of fifth when the Royals added seven runs to give them the victory due to the 10-run mercy rule.

Babb, Hammer, Pez McGee, Hunter Bryant and Jovan Presley all drew walks and later scored. Fullilove singled and Hankins tripled to wrap up scoring.
