Red Sox pitchers log no-hitter in shutout; A’s slip by Royals

Four pitchers combined for a no-hitter as the Red Sox blanked the Yankees 11-0 in five innings Friday night in American Legion baseball play.

Austin Towles and Clay Harbour tossed two innings each while Cameron Brown teamed up with  Adam Cook to close out the game in the fifth inning. Towles and Cook also led the Sox offensively with a double and single. Brown and Cody Harbour added a pair of singles to go along with two runs batted in.

The Sox jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the top of the first before adding three runs in the third and fifth inning and a solo run in the fourth.Mason Wilkinson, Trey McGovern, Tyler Pogue, Chris Cassiday, Joby Ellington and Morgan Montgomery all saw time on the mound for the Yankees.

In the opening game of the day, the A’s got past the Royals 10-7. Austin Smith banged out three singles in the winning effort.

Ridge Simmerman added two singles while Ethen Calvert chipped in with a double and single. Scott Taylor contributed with a double while Austin Epps and Colton Cook registered a single.

Hunter Darby paced the Royals with three singles while Pez McGee and Landon Fullilove added two hits. Tyler Babb, Hammer Hankins, Hunter Bryant and Dakota Owens all singled.
