The South Panola Lady Tiger’s fastpitch team came from being down 2-0 to defeat the Tupelo Lady Golden Wave 4-2 in a district game at Tupelo on Tuesday.
The Lady Golden Wave scored two runs in the bottom of the first inning but the Lady Tigers answered, scoring four runs in the top of the fourth.
Lady Tiger head coach Ashleigh Hicks said it was a great game.
“The team played well and never game up the whole time,” she said. “It was a great game played by all members of the team because it took all of us on and off the field.”
Scoring runs for the Lady Tigers were Amanda Ivy, who also tripled; Tory Helton, Lindsey Calvert and Lauren Calvert. Picking up two RBIs (runs batted in) was Diamond Browning.
On the mound was Helton who fanned seven batters.
On defense, Helton had 13 assists and one put out. Ivy had nine put outs. Lauren Calvert had nine put outs while Caroline Dickens had three.
The Lady Tigers had three hits and no errors. The Lady Golden Wave had four hits and one error.
The “no error” stat pleased Hicks.
“We’ve been striving and focusing on not having errors. I am glad to see them making huge steps.”
The junior varsity team won 7-6 in a heated battle.
“The junior varsity game was a lot closer than it should have been,” Hicks said. “We missed some defensive plays and had some missed signs but we finished and won the game.”
The Lady Tigers will be back in action at home tonight with the Starkville Lady Jackets. The junior varsity game will start at 5 p.m.
