Max Glynn Babb

UNION CITY, Tenn.–Max Glynn Babb, 76, died Saturday, April 2, 2011. He was the father of Michael Babb of Batesville.

Services will be held today at noon at White-Ranson Funeral Home. John Dale will officiate. Burial will be in Obion County Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until service time. White-Ranson Funeral Home of Union City, Tenn. has charge.

Babb, born July 4, 1934, in Fulton, to the late George Babb and Beulah McCree Babb, was a retired employee of Goodyear.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Margie Herchenhahn Babb.

Survivors along with his son include: one daughter, LeeAnn Kelly of Sparta, Tenn. and four grandchildren.

 Michael William Daniel

BATESVILLE–Michael  ”Mike” William Daniel, 27, died Sunday, April 3, 2011, from an auto accident.

Services will be held today at 3 p.m. at Wells Funeral Home. Rev. Todd Pittman will officiate. Burial will be in Forrest Memorial Park. Visitation will be held from noon until service time. Wells Funeral Home has charge.

Daniel, born Feb. 9, 1984, in Senatobia, worked as an electrician for Matt Johnson Electrical Company. He was a member of First Faith Baptist Church in Batesville.

Survivors include: his mother, Marilyn White Daniel of Batesville; one daughter, Kallie Daniel of Batesville; one son, Levi Daniel of Batesville; three brothers, Mitchell Daniel, Matthew Daniel and Mark Daniel, all of Batesville and his grandparents, Peggy Tubbs of Coldwater and Dallas White of Hernando.

Sarah Hartzell Darby

BATESVILLE–Sarah Hartzell Darby, 94, died Friday, April 1, 2011, at Senatobia Convalescent Center.

Services were Sunday at Wells Funeral Home. Rev. Roy Hartzell officiated. Burial was in Shiloh Cemetery. Wells Funeral Home had charge.

Darby, born Aug. 12, 1916, in Memphis, to the late Clifford and Emma Holt Hartzell, was a retired school teacher and a member of Shiloh United Methodist Church. During her teaching career she started teaching at Independence School, Pope School and West Panola Academy. She taught for 35 years.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack M. Darby.

Survivors include: her son, Jack Wayne Darby and his wife Bess of Courtland; two grandchildren, Sarah Elizabeth “Liz” Darby Wilson and Cindy Darby Armstrong and four great-grandchildren.

Martha Inez Towles Hill

SARDIS–Martha Inez Towles Hill, 96, died Thursday, March 31, 2011, at Tunica Nursing Home.

Services were held Sunday, April 3, at Ray-Nowell Funeral Home at Sardis Chapel, with burial at Hebron Baptist Church Cemetery. Ray-Nowell Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Hill was a member of Hebron Baptist Church for over 80 years and was the oldest living member.

Hebron was organized by her grandfather, Herman James Legge, a Baptist minister. She was a Sunday school teacher for many years, a member of WMU, sang in the choir, taught Vacation Bible School and was church secretary for several years.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William Finley Hill; her son, Charles William Hill; her son-in-law, Walter Jerry Thornton; her grandson, Kevin Alan Thornton, two great-great grandsons, Logan and Chandler Rawson.

Survivors include her daughter, Alice Ann Thornton Pegram (James) of Tunica; her daughter-in-law, Betty S. Hill of Batesville; her grandchildren, Melinda Hill Lipe (Charles) of Oxford, Kenneth Hill of Batesville, Susan Hill Mills (Kenneth) of Batesville, and Amy Thornton Martin (Tom) of Olive Branch; eight great-grandchildren, Jeremy, Rebecca, Jessica, Timothy, Kristin, Kourtni, Katherine and Cade; and three great-great grandchildren, Kaylee Beth and Stone Ferguson, and Madelyn Hill.

Ruby Jean Tiner White

COURTLAND–Ruby Jean Tiner White, 76, died Tuesday, March 29, 2011, at her daughter’s home in Courtland. She was the grandmother of Maranda Fortner Johnson of Batesville.

Services were Thursday at Wells Funeral Home. Dr. Tommy Snyder of First Baptsit Church officiated. Burial was in Forrest Memorial Park. Wells Funeral Home had charge.

White, born June 11, 1934, in Calhoun County, to the late Edward and Elizabeth Hardin Melton, was a member of Enid Lake Baptist Church and the Fellowship Sunday School Class of the First Baptist Church of Batesville. She was a retired factory worker.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Clifford Bailey Tiner.

Survivors include: four daughters, Patty Tiner Daugherty, Daile Tiner Johnson, Kathleen Tiner Fortner and Patricia Tiner, all of Courtland; two sons, Randy Tiner of Courtland and Tom Tiner of Enid; one sister, Mattie Bland of Batesville; one brother, Wayne Melton of Enid; 16 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
