Linda Faye Brown

COMO– Linda Faye Brown, 46, died Friday, February 18, 2011, at Methodist University Hospital in Memphis.

Services will be held Saturday at noon at Gospel Temple Church of God in Christ in Senatobia. Burial will be in Liberty Hill Church in Como. Felix Cauthen Funeral Home has charge.

Survivors include: one daughter, La’Rickierra E. Goings of Como; her mother, Minnie Rine Brown of Como; five sisters, Thelma Askew of Senatobia, Emma Jackson, Ruby Brown and Jennie Green, all of Como and Laura Bassett of Chicago; and two brothers, Henry Howard of Como and Clyde Brown Jr. of Sardis.

Louis T. Carthon

CHARLESTON– Louis T. Carthon, 45, died Friday, February 8, 2011, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi.

Services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at New Town M.B. Church in Charleston. Derrick Williams will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held Friday from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. at Cooley’s Mortuary and Saturday from 10 a.m. – 11 a.m. at New Town M.B. Church. Cooley’s Mortuary has charge.

Carthon, born March 2, 1965, in Oakland, to Jerry Carthon and Katherine Benson Carthon, was a repairman for Batesville Casket Company and a member of New Town M.B. Church in Charleston.

Survivors include: his wife, Nina Carthon of Charleston; his parents, Jerry and Katherine Carthon of Oakland; three daughters, Precious Dogan of Charleston, Nina Dogan of Jackson and Derdre Scott of Tillatobia; two sons, Charles Patterson of Memphis and LeQuinton Scott of Oxford; three sisters, Joy Kimble and Rose Williams, both of Oakland and Patricia Grant of Charleston; three brothers, Jerry Carthon Jr., Willie Carthon, both of Oakland and Tracie Carton of Courtland and his grandmother, Esbelle Hudson of Oakland and five grandchildren.

Malone Edwards

COMO– Malone Edwards, 81, died Thursday, February 17, 2011, at Tri-Lakes Medical Center.

Services will be held Saturday at noon at Cistern Hill M.B. Church in Como. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Henderson Funeral Home has charge.

Edwards, born Sept. 17, 1929, to the late Lucious Edwards and Roberta Hill Edwards, was a farmer.

Survivors include: one son, Marshel Boyles of Sardis; one sister, Effie Vaughn of Como and William Lee of Chicago.

Billy W. “BW” Fowler

CONROE, Texas– Billy W. “BW” Fowler, 82, formerly of Courtland, died Wednesday, February 23, 2011, in Odyssey Hospice House in Conroe, Texas.

Services will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. at Wells Funeral Home. Rev. Clay Baker will officiate. Burial will be in Eureka Private Cemetery in Courtland. Visitation will be held Friday from 5 p.m. – 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Wells Funeral Home has charge.

Mr. Fowler, born Sept. 4, 1928, in Courtland, to John Angelo and Nettie Hyland Fowler, worked as a superintendant for Texaco Construction in Conroe, Texas. He also served his country in the United States Army. He was a member of the 32nd Degree Masonic Lodge.

He was preceded in death by five brothers, Coleman, Miles, Rupert, Bob and Mitchell Fowler and four sisters, Irene Porter, Margaret Burns, Louise Lipe and Mae Etta Brewer.

Survivors include: two brothers, Harry Fowler of Walnut and Douglas “Doug” Fowler of Courtland; his twin sister, Ossie Fowler White of Lufkin, Texas and his caregivers, Bret and Kim Bartholet of Conroe, Texas; and a host of nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be sent to Eureka Private Cemetery, c/o Charlie Baker, 3129-A Bell Rd., Courtland, Miss. 388620.

Clara Bell Lawson

BATESVILLE–Clara Bell Lawson, 85, died Monday, February 21, 2011, at her residence.

Services were Wednesday at Cooley’s Mortuary Chapel. Rev. Zannie Leland Jr. officiated. Burial was in West Camp Cemetery. Cooley’s Mortuary had charge.

Lawson, born May 19, 1925, in Batesville, to J.H. Roberson and Pearl Tillis, was a retired convenience store owner and a member of West Batesville Baptist Church.

TD Lambert

COMO– T.D. Lambert, 85, died Monday, February 21, 2011, at his residence.

Services were held Wednesday, February 23, at Wells Funeral Home Chapel with interment at Senatobia Memorial Cemetery with military honors. Rev. Greg Hurt officiated.

Wells Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Lambert was born May 11, 1925, in Parks Place, to the late Monte Clayton and Winnie Lambert.

He served his country in the United States Army during World War II and later served his county for 21 years as constable and deputy sheriff.

Mr. Lambert was an avid gardener, having grown some of the largest vegetables in the county.
Survivors include his wife, Norma Lambert of Como; his daughter, Michelle Lambert of Senatobia; his son, Billy Lambert of Batesville; two sisters, Louise Brewer Roach of Sardis and Mildred Frances of Wilmington, Del.; two brothers, Ed Lambert of Como and Monte Lambert of Jackson; six grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.

Allie Parks Jr.

BATESVILLE–Allie Parks, Jr., widower of the late Essie Edan Sanders Parks, died Monday, February 21, 2011, at his residence in Batesville. He was 90.

    Graveside services were Thursday at Hickman City Cemetery in Hickman, Ky. with burial in Hickman Cemetery.  Wells Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.

    Mr. Parks was born March 12, 1920, in Hickman, Ky. to the late Allie and Margaret Ridley Parks. He was a retired tire builder for Firestone Tire and Rubber Company in Memphis. On November 11, 1944, Mr. Parks joined the U.S. Army at Camp Atterbury, Ind. and was honorably discharged on April 14, 1946 with the rank of Corporal after serving in World War II. He was also a member of Leawood Baptist Church in Memphis.

    Besides his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Norma Jean Parks; two sisters, Josephine Matthews, Doris Hayden; three brothers, Harry, Robert, and James Parks.

    Survivors include his daughter, Linda Dale Penny of Memphis; two sons, Richard Parks of Batesville and Marvin E. Parks of Germantown, Tenn.; a sister, Mary Farrell of Sykestown, Mo.; four grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren.

Ruby Lee Weatherly Stewart

GERMANTOWN–Ruby Lee Weatherly Stewart, widow of Julian Whaley Stewart, died Monday, February 21, 2011, at Baptist Memorial East Hospital in Memphis.
She was 84.

Services were Thursday at Memphis Funeral Home Poplar Chapel with burial in West Tennessee Veterans Cemetery on Forrest Hill Irene.

Rev. Don Riley was the officiating minister.  

Wells Funeral Home had charge of complete arrangements.

 Stewart was born January 30, 1927, in Memphis, to Andrew Lee and Annie Ruby Cox Weatherly.

She was a 1945 graduate of Middleton High School where she played basketball.

Mrs. Stewart was a Methodist in faith and was retired from Kelloggs with 26 years of service as a packer.

Survivors include her daughter, Wanda Stewart Alexander of Germantown; two sons, Bob Stewart of Memphis and Danny Stewart of Germantown; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

The family requests memorials be sent to Church Health Center, 1210 Peabody Ave., Memphis, Tenn. 38104 or the charity of the donor’s choice.

Will Eva Stokes

CROWDER–Will Eva Stokes, 73, died Thursday, February 17, 2011, at his residence.

Services will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at Poplar Springs M.B. Church in Enid. Rev. Coya Blackburn will officiate. Visitation will be held Friday 4 p.m. – 6 p.m. at the funeral home and Saturday at Popular Springs M.B. Church at 2 p.m. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Henderson Funeral Home has charge.

Stokes, born May  22, 1937, to the late Johnnie Houston Sr. and Hattie Houston, was a member of Popular Springs M.B. Church.

Survivors include: her husband, John A. Stokes of Crowder and two daughters, Veneva Money of Pope and Hattie M. Redie of Memphis.
