A BPD detective said sheriff’s investigators arrested Derrick A. Burdette about noon Thursday.

Few details were made public since the investigation is ongoing.

Still Trailer Park is located west of Martin Luther King Jr. Drive in west Batesville.

Smith had lived in a mobile home at 114 Clinton Street, where he was shot, but police were unsure if he was living there at the time of the shooting.

A 911 call reporting the shooting was made at 8:44 p.m. to the Batesville Police Department, said Jones.

Smith survived the shooting and was transported to Tri-Lakes Medical Center, then to The Med in Memphis. He died there early Thursday morning, the chief said.

Smith’s death marked the first homicide in Batesville since 2008, police said.
