A 16-year-old juvenile was arrested Wednesday and charged with burglarizing two homes that same morning on Pollard Street in Batesville.

Two more juveniles are being sought as accomplices, said police.

The arrest came hours after police fanned out in the neighborhood, known as Green Acres, to interview residents on Pollard and other nearby streets.

Many residents were gone during work hours, police said, but other residents reported seeing juveniles on foot traveling toward J.P. Hudson ball fields.

Police found stolen electronics and firearms in a home adjacent to the ballpark, said BDP Detective Paul Shivers. The 16-year-old lives in the home with his mother, he said.  

Some Green Acres residents who were interviewed by police said they saw the juveniles, who are black, but did not report them to police.

“One of them was seen walking down the street with some of the stolen goods,” Shivers said. “But they didn’t want to appear prejudiced and so they didn’t call.”

“If anyone sees anything out of the ordinary, they should call the police. Don’t hesitate,” said BPD Chief Tony Jones.

Police are still seeking more eyewitnesses who saw the juveniles, the detective said. They can contact the police department at 563-5653.
