NDJH ends long season Thursday night

The North Delta School  junior high football team wrapped up its 2010 season on the short end of the stick by dropping a 22-20 decision to Kirk Academy Thursday night.

Bailey Sullivant carried most of the load for the Green Wave by rushing for 43 yards on 13 totes and one touchdown. Quarterback Skylar Lawson followed with 23 yards on 10 carries while Parker Jones chipped in with eight carries for 22 yards.

Lawson was three-of-seven through the air for 73 yards and one interception. The Green Wave totaled 161 yards of offense on the night.

Trailing 14-0 in the second quarter, the Green Wave, (2-4) put together a 14-play; 64-yard drive that was capped off by Sullivant’s three-yard run with 2:21 remaining in the half that left the score 14-6 after Tyler Beard’s PAT failed.  

Following the kickoff, North Delta got the ball back three plays later when Andy Linder’s 26-yard interception return to the Raider seven yard-line set up Lawson’s one yard plunge to make the score 14-12 at the 2:20 mark.

After a scoreless third quarter, Kirk expanded the lead to 20-12 on a two-yard scoring run with 4:14 left in the game. North Delta closed the margin to 22-20 on the very next play from scrimmage as Lawson hit Parker Neth with a 68-yard scoring bomb with 3:56 showing on the clock. The Green Wave could not get the ball back however as Kirk ran out the final three minutes of the game to get the victory.

Beard led the North Delta defense with six tackles while Wilson Morrow added three stops.
