BPD still at work on burglaries

Batesville police are working with Southaven and Coldwater officers in an attempt to solve a late September burglary spree that struck five Batesville businesses.

Dunlap and Kyle, Performance ATV, Quality Carpets, Sherwin-Williams and Fastenal were victims in Batesville to similar burglaries in the Tate and DeSoto municipalities on the same night, Police Detective Captain Paul Shivers said. They struck quickly, going immediately to offices with cash drawers and spending very little time in the building after the forced entry, he said.

Police are looking for two white males driving a silver car, Shivers added.

During one of the Batesville burglaries, police arrived within 15 seconds after they received notification of the burglar alarm. However, they learned that notice of the alarm activation had been delayed by about 15 minutes because of the victim’s alarm protocol, Deputy Police Chief Don Province said.

The protocol required the business employees to be called to rule out a false alarm triggered by an employee’s after-hours visit, he said.

“I wish every business in town had an alarm protocol that notifies the police immediately,” Police Chief Tony Jones said.
