Cars, quilts and pancakes offer weekend variety

Hot rodders, Exchangites and quilters from Teasdale are all trying to lure people to Batesville this weekend for different reasons.

The Teasdale Quilters are bringing their show, a three-day event beginning Friday, to the store space next to Phil Webb Office Supply in the shopping center adjacent to First Security Bank at Eureka and Highway 6.

Anyone who has visited this show in previous years will tell you this is not a “wannabe” or “copycat” show—it’s the real deal.

The Teasdale Quilting ladies have put together more than 500 quilts for display and admission is only $3.

Almost everbody likes pancakes and the annual pancake breakfast sponsored by the Batesville Exchange Club will be held from 7-10 a.m. at the Batesville Intermediate School Cafeteria on Atwell and College Street. Tickets may be purchased from any Exchange Club member or at The Panolian.

(I prefer tickets be purchased here at The Panolian because I know the company is going to have to buy all tickets that brother doesn’t sell.)

If “papa” doesn’t like quilts then he can drop “momma” at the quilt show and motor down to the Batesville Downtown Square where Delta Street Rodders will host their first “Showoff on the Square” featuring street rods from miles around. This is the local car club’s first October event on the Downtown Square, but if the club’s annual “Catfish Run” show held in the heat of the summer is any indication, there will be plenty of shiny, nostalgic cars to gloat over.

City officials are also excited about the event with Mayor Jerry Autrey stating that 70 trophies will be awarded including “Ugliest Car”.

Several sponsors have signed on and Batesville Main Street is assisting with preparation and planning.

Some city officials are optimistic that the October weekend festivities can grow into an annual event with even more attractions added next year.
