Dorothy May Avery

ELAINE, Ark.–Dorothy May Avery, 84, died Friday, August 27, 2010, at Tri-Lakes Medical Center.

    Services were held Sunday, August 29, at Shiloh United Methodist Church in Batesville with interment at Shiloh Cemetery. Rev. Luke Watson and Rev. Chris Cooksey officiated. Dickins Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

    Miss Avery, a retired school teacher, lived in Elaine, Ark. where she taught second grade for forty-three years. She was a member of Elaine Baptist Church.

    Survivors include two sisters, Louneal Avery Gee of Batesville and Mildred Avery Lashlee of Cincinnati, Ohio.

COURTLAND– Harry Lee Heafner Jr., 62, died Monday, August 30, 2010, at Tri-Lakes Medical Center.

Services were Wednesday at Wells Funeral Home. Rev. Todd Pittman officiated. Burial was in Forrest Memorial Park. Wells Funeral Home had charge.

Heafner, born Jan. 8, 1948, in Batesville, to the late Harry Lee Heafner Sr. and Irma Rose Ragon Pittman, was a member of Courtland United Methodist Church and was an auto body repairman.

He was preceded in death by one son, Chad Richardson.

Survivors include: his wife, Diane Richardson Heafner of Courtland; two daughters, Jennifer Heafner Sneed of Courtland and Allison Heafner Hodges of Gulfport; sons, David Scott “Scotty” Heafner of Estill Springs, Tenn., Eric Heafner of Courtland and Bryan Heafner of Charleston; three sisters, Gail Heafner Meek of Courtland, Debbie Pittman Wigley of Batesville and Donna Pittman Beard of Senatobia; three brothers, Todd Pittman, Darryl Pittman, both of Courtland and Michael Pittman of Memphis and 10 grandchildren.

George Washington McKinney Sr.

LOS ANGELES, Calif.– George Washington McKinney Sr., 82, formerly of Sardis, died, July 15, 2010.

Services were Friday, July 23 at St. John Baptist Church. Rev. James A. Brooks officiated. Burial was in Inglewood Park Cemetery. Harrison-Ross Mortuary in Los Angeles had charge.

McKinney, born May 7, 1928, in Batesville, to the late Green and Mary McKinney, moved to Los Angeles in 1960 and found employment with Mox Lumberyard as a supervisor. He started his own business, George McKinney Roofing Company, during the slow roofing season he worked as a maintenance supervisor until he retired in 1998. He served as a deacon at Rock Hill Missionary Baptist Church in Batesville. In 1962 he became a member of St. John Baptist Church where he continued to be a deacon until his health failed him.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Hattie Mae McKinney.

Survivors include: three daughters, Imogene Rouse, Althea Turner and Denise Key; three sons, George L. McKinney Jr., Gregory McKinney and Alonzo McKinney; five brothers, Green McKinney, Sam McKinney, Allen McKinney, Joe McKinney and Lawrence McKinney; one sister, Pearl McKinney; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

COMO– Buford “Bea” Morris Orr, 85, died Thursday, August 26, 2010, at her residence.

Services were Saturday at Como United Methodist Church. Burial was in Friendship Cemetery. Ray-Nowell Funeral Home had charge.

Orr, born Oct. 1, 1924, to the late Nathan Morris and Bertha Parkinson Morris, was a homemaker and a member of Como United Methodist Church.

Survivors include: her husband, Robert W. Orr of Como; one daughter, Glenda Ann Tingle of Oxford; three sons, Ronald Joe Thornton of Perez Zeledon, Costa Rica, Carl Orr of New Orleans and Robert W. Orr Jr. of Dothan, Ala.; two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Como United Methodist Church.

Shirley Ann Stewart

BATESVILLE– Shirley Ann West Stewart, 72, died August 31, 2010, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-East in Memphis.

Services will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. at First Faith Baptist Church. Rev. Terry Floyd will officiate. Burial will be in Forrest Memorial Park. Visitation will be held today from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. at First Faith Baptist Church. Wells Funeral Home has charge.

Stewart, born Jan. 31, 1938, in Corinth, to the late Jimmie Berry and Audrey Mae Hamm West, was a member of First Faith Baptist Church. She worked in real estate as a property manager.

Survivors include: her husband, Larry Stewart of Batesville; two sons, Jimmie Cramer Stonebraker and his wife Candace of Hailey, Ind. and Clarence Lloyd Stonebraker and his wife Cindy of Memphis; two daughters, Patricia Ann Blankenship and her husband, Robert of Cordova and Debra Jean Blackwood and her husband, Don of Batesville; one sister, Shelby Jean Dancy of Cordova; one brother, Ladale Wesley Hawkins of California; eight grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

 COMO– Gerald “Jerry” Wayne Webb Jr., 50, died Monday, August 30, 2010, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi.

Services will be held Saturday at 3 p.m. at New Hope Baptist Church in Harmontown. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Ray-Nowell Funeral Home has charge.

Webb was a carpenter and a member of New Hope Baptist Church. He was a member of Harmontown Volunteer Fire Department and E.M.R.

Survivors include: his wife, Dianna Cresswell Webb of Como; two daughters, Beverly Babb and Ashley Webb, both of Oxford; three sons, Jason Cresswell of Johnson City, Tenn., Jeremy Cresswell of Hernando and Shawn Webb of Waterford; two brothers, Mike Webb of Southaven and Geoffrey Webb of Counce, Tenn.; one sister, Joyce Ann of Blytheville, Ark. and seven grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to New Hope Baptist Church in Harmontown.
