Entergy offers payment assistance program

Dear Editor:

This summer’s extreme heat can make it difficult for our most vulnerable neighbors to stay cool and comfortable. Tragically, it has even proved deadly for some.

But many residents shouldn’t have to worry about how they’ll pay to keep cool during the heat wave, or feel forced to turn their cool air off.

Bill payment assistance is available to qualified low income, elderly and disabled Mississippians through the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program. People can apply for LIHEAP money at their local community action agency through September 30, or until funds are gone.

The Mississippi Department of Human Services recently sent a letter urging us to spread the word to our customers who may need help. However, every Mississippian who uses electricity and qualifies for the program can receive assistance, no matter who supplies their energy.

Panola County area customers interested in the program should contact the Mid-State Opportunity office in Sardis at 662-487-3076 to see if they qualify.  A list of all state agencies is available at the MDHS website at www.mdhs.ms.state.us, click on Community Services, then on County Service Directory.

Entergy Mississippi also provides bill payment assistance to the elderly and disabled through the Power to Care fund.  This fund is also administered by Mid-State Opportunity, Inc. in Sardis.  Visit entergy-mississippi.com for a full list of partnering agencies.

Sincerely,

George P. Cossar, III
