ND logs district win over Kirk 4-1

The North Delta Lady Green Wave softball team got the District 1-AA season off to a good start with a 4-1 road victory over Kirk Tuesday night in Grenada.

Despite registering only four hits, the Green Wave played solid defense and got an outstanding pitching performance from senior Mary Jane Morrow to improve to 6-2 and 1-0 in district play.

North Delta got on the board first by scoring two runs in the top of the first inning.  Vicky Johnson led off the game with a walk then scored on an RBI double off the bat of Hastings Neal. Bradi Beard then followed with an RBI groundout.

Two innings later, the Wave tacked on two more runs as Julianna Morrow led off the frame with one of her two singles on the day. Neal followed by reaching on a bunt and an error that advanced both runners to second and third. Beard then drove home Neal and Morrow with a fielders’choice to close out the scoring. Madison Greenlee accounted for North Delta’s other hit with a second-inning single.

The Wave will return to action today and tomorrow at the Madison Ridgeland tournament when they will square off against defending AA State champion Prairie View,, La at 10 a.m., followed by contests with Carroll and host MRA. North Delta will return home Tuesday to face West Memphis, Ark. in a district contest at 4 p.m.
