Jewel Sue Adcock
KOSCIUSKO– Jewel Sue Adcock, 77, died Tuesday, June 8, 2010, at her residence. She was the mother of Robert Adcock of Batesville.
Services were Friday at Jordan Funeral Home. Burial was in Parkway Cemetery. Jordan Funeral Home had charge.
Adcock was a member of Williamsville Baptist Church and served in the Ethel CB Club. She sewed the Kosciusko Flag.
She was preceded in death by her husband, W.L. “Bill” Adcock and one son, Donald Eugene Adcock.
Survivors along with her son include: one son, W.L. Adcock of Sumrall; one daughter, Pamela Vowell of Carthage; one brother, Marion Stephens of Poplarville; one sister, Terry Mitchell of Kosciusko; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.
COURTLAND– Mack Shivers Benson, 79, died Wednesday, June 16, 2010, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi.
Graveside services will be held Saturday at 9 a.m. at Antioch Cemetery in Courtland. Mark Jones will officiate. Visitation will be held today from 5 p.m. – 7 p.m. at Dickins Funeral Home.
Benson, born to the late William Lawrence Benson and Hattie Pearl Sanders Benson, was a U.S. Army veteran. He was a farmer and a retired Panola County Supervisor for District 3, where he was serving as vice-president when he retired in 2008. He served on the legislative and executive committees for Mississippi Association of Supervisors.
He was a trustee for Northwest Mississippi Community College and served on the board of directors for North Delta Planning and Development for six years and was a member of Mid-State Opportunity Board. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Batesville.
He was preceded in death by one grandson, Joseph Sullivan.
Survivors include: his wife of 57 years, Tommye Dean Burns Benson of Courtland; three daughters, Kathy B. Sullivan of Courtland, Gail B. Dalrymple of Aberdeen and Connie B. Warren of Shreveport, La. and five grandchildren, Nicholas and Sara Beth Sullivan, Chandler Warren, Callan Dalrymple and Addison Dalrymple.
Memorials may be made to Antioch Cemetery in Courtland.
CLARKSDALE– David A. Evans Jr., 80, died Thursday, June 10, 2010, at the Mississippi State Veterans Home in Oxford. He is survived by his son David A. Evans III and his daughter-in-law Cynthia of Batesville.
Services were Saturday at First Presbyterian Church in Clarksdale. Burial was in Oakridge Cemetery. Meredith-Nowell Funeral Home had charge.
Evans, born to the late David and Marie Andrews Evans, graduated from Clarksdale High School and Mississippi State University with a degree in civil engineering. He earned the ranking of Eagle Scout with the Boy Scouts of America. He served his country in the US Navy during the Korean War. While attending Mississippi State, he was a member of Kappa Sigma and honorary member of Tau Beta Pi engineering fraternity. He was former County Engineer. He was past member of Clarksdale Lions Club, past commander of the American Legion, 40/8 and VFW Post 3936. He was a member and deacon of First Presbyterian Church of Clarksdale.
He was preceded in death by his parents David and Marie Andrews Evans, Sr..
Survivors along with his son and daughter-in-law include: his wife of 53 years, Peggy Horton Evans of Clarksdale; one daughter Dixie Bonham and her husband David of Houston, Texas, daughter Polly Bennett and her husband Ronald of Clarksdale, and six grandchildren Marley Bennett Lunceford, Frazier Bennett Gore, Madeline Bonham, Claire Bonham, David Evans IV and Annelise Evans.
Jonathan Nicholas Jackson
SARDIS– Jonathan Nicholas Jackson, 30, died Saturday, June 12, 2010, at his residence.
Services were Thursday at Mt. Zion M.B. Church in Sardis. Rev. Johnny McDonald officiated. Burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery. Henderson Funeral Home had charge.
Jackson, born June 9, 1980, to Norma Mae Trammell of Sardis and the late Joe Louis Jackson, was a truck driver and a member of Mt. Zion M.B. Church. He attended North Panola High School.
Survivors along with his mother include: his step-father, Eugene Trammell of Sardis; two brothers, Willie H. Jackson of Houston, Texas and Joseph B. Jckson of Memphis; one sister, LeThear J. Armstrong of Senatobia.
