Cloteen Houston

BATESVILLE– Cloteen Houston, 54, died Monday, May 24 in Panola County.

Funeral services were held Saturday, May 29 at New Hope M.B. Church.

Eddie Robison Funeral Home had charge of the arrangements. Burial was in Eureka Cemetery.

Sherry York Griffin

CROWDER– Sherry York Griffin, 50, died Monday May 31 in Marks.

Funeral services were held Saturday, June 4 at Kimbro Funeral Home in Marks. Rev. Raymond Roberson will officiate.

Kimbro Funeral Home has charge.

Griffin was born Nov. 8, 1959 in Jackson to Maudie York.

Survivors along with her mother include one son, Bobby Pearson of Pearl; three daughters, Angie Homer and Brandy Sartin both of Marks, and Shea Homer of Pope; two brothers, Jerry York of Braxton and Harvey York of Pearl; two sisters, Betty Harper and Hazel Cumberland both of Brookehaven, and 10 grandchildren.

Chalmers “Charlie” Larry Poe Sr.

SARDIS– Chalmers “Charlie” Larry Poe Sr., 71, died Saturday, June 5 at Tri-Lakes Medical Center.

A memorial service was held Thursday, June 10, at Central Academy Church of Christ. Paul Meacham officiated. Burial was in the Portland Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery in Portland, Ore.

Coleman Funeral Home of Oxford had charge of local arrangements.

Poe, born in Meadeville, Pa., was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served two tours of Vietnam as an intelligence photographer. Poe was an ordained minister who worked for the U.S. Postal Service, U.S. Forestry Service and worked in law enforcement in Florida and Alaska.

He was preceded in death by his wife Minnie Poe, his parents Chalmers and Olive Poe, and his step-father Hughie Hamilton.

Survivors include five sons, Chalmers Larry Poe Jr., of Bolivar, Mo., Ricky L. Poe of Oxford, Joseph McLarty of Tacoma, Wash., Eddie McLarty of Litchfield, Ill., and John McLarty of Marks; five daughters, Rhonda Poe of Oxford, Shelly Thompson of Portland, Mary Enright of Vincennes, Ind., Lottie McLarty of Oxford and Mary Massey of Hickory Flat; one brother, Emerson Leroy Poe of Zeph Hills, Fla., and four grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to LeBonheur Foundation, P.O. Box 41817, Memphis, Tenn., 38174.

Aurelia Elizabeth “Sparky” Rhodes

RALEIGH, N.C.– Aurelea Elizabeth “Sparky” Rhodes, 87, formerly of Batesville, died Wednesday June 9 at her home.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 12 at 1 p.m. At Mary’s Mother of the Church Catholic Parrish. 1008 Vendora Springs Rd., Garner, N.C. at 1 p.m.

Rhodes, born July 28, 1922 in Memphis to Nora Collins and Lewis Edward Rhodes, was a long-time member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Batesville where she was a teacher and organist.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd A. “Dusty” Rhodes.

She is survived by four daughters, Eileen Marie Pretherbridge Niesen of Dallas, Judy Christine Rhodes of Bailey, Colo., Mary Elaine Rhodes McClure of Arkabutla and Marie Lynn Rhodes of Raleigh, N.C.; three sons, Robert “Bob” Lloyd Rhodes of Raleigh, Dennis Caven Rhodes of French Town, Mont., and Paul Roland Rhodes of Franfurt, Ken, 19 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made of the Palmer Home for Children in Hernando.

Archer T. “Archie” Shaw

OLIVE BRANCH– Archer T. “Archie” Shaw, 80, a former Batesville pharmacist, died Wednesday, June 9, at his residence.

Visitation is today from 5 p.m. To 8 p.m. At Brantley Funeral Home in Olive Branch. Funeral services are Saturday at 2 p.m. At the funeral home with burial to follow in Autumnwoods Cemetery.

Brantley Funeral Home has charge.

Shaw was a Korean War veteran who served as fighter pilot in the U.S. Air Force. He was a retired pharmacist who worked many years at Haltom Drug Store in Batesville, and a former member of the Batesville JCs.

He was preceded in death by his parents Ord Spencer Shaw Sr., and Virginia Shaw, and his wife Sara Sullivant Shaw.

Survivors include one daughter, Vicki Lynn Niblett of Olive Brach; one sister, Lora V. Franklin of Munford, Tenn.; one brother, Ord Spencer Shaw Jr. of Yuma, Ariz., and three grandchildren.

Barbara E. Taylor

SARDIS.– Barbara E. Taylor, 55, died Wednesday, June 9 at Baptist Memorial Hospital- North Mississippi.

Funeral services will be Saturday, June 12 at Wells Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Longtown Cemetery in Crenshaw. Visitation is tonight from 5-8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Rev. Kevin Crofford will officate.

Taylor, born July 31, 1954, in Marks to Mack Little and the late Hazel Berryhill Little, was a factory worker for Phil Maid/Hygiene.

She was preceded in death by her mother and one son, Ricky Taylor Jr.

Survivors along with her father include her husband Ricky Taylor Sr. of Sardis; one son Bradley S. Taylor of Houston, Texas; four sisters, Kaye Cook of Courtland, Shelia Cosby of Crowder, Judy Green of Olive Branch, and Dottie Schafer of Bruce; one brother, Jimmy Little of Batesville and five grandchildren.
