The North Delta School Green Wave will open the first round of MAIS 3A District 1 playoffs on Friday, Oct. 27, on the road at Central Holmes Christian School. The Green Wave finished regular season play last week with a 35-0 loss to Kirk Academy and an even 5-5 record.
Playoff football is a new season for teams that struggled in scheduled games, and Green Wave coaches and fans are optimistic about North Delta’s opportunity to continue the season. Friday’s opponent, the Central Holmes Trojans, finished regular season play 7-3 and 2-1 in 3A District 2 games.
North Delta, 1-4 in district play, finished fifth in District 1 and Central Holmes was second in District 2. The playoff game will start at 7 p.m. in Lexington.
In the regular season, the Trojans beat Oak Hill, Sylva Bay, Indianola, French Camp, Winona Christian, Benton, and Riverside and lost to Kirk, Greenville Christian, and Canton.
In last week’s final game of the season, the Green Wave faithful enjoyed Homecoming activities, but were held scoreless in the game by a talented Raider team, who finished the season 10-0.
The game was scoreless after the first quarter before the visiting Raiders exploded for 29 points in the second to take a comfortable halftime lead. Kirk put another six points on the board in the third quarter and there was no scoring in the final period.
