Marilyn Ann Bolen

COURTLAND— Marilyn Ann Bolen, 50, died Wednesday, December 2, 2009, at her residence.

Services will be held today at 2 p.m. at Wells Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Todd Pittman officiating. Burial will be in Magnolia Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until service time. Wells Funeral Home has charge.

Marilyn was born May 11, 1959 in Marks,  to the late Causy Quay and Mary Ann Morgan Bolen. She was a member of Courtland Baptist Church and Courtland Fire Department Auxillary. She was a long-time dispatcher for that Batesville Police Department and the Mississippi Highway Patrol as a Drivers Licenses Examiner. She collected raccoons, loved her Avon, loved to cook and Facebook, also enjoyed talking on the telephone, flowers and deer hunting.

Survivors include: her sister, Carol Bolen Brewer and husband Barry of Courtland, and long-time companion, Tommy Bolton of Courtland, and his son, Heath Bolton of Courtland and one nephew, Brandon Brewer of Courtland.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Regina Carol Bolen and twin infant brothers, Teddy and Freddy Bolen.

The family request that anyone wishing to send memorials to forward them to the Juvenile Diabetes Resource Foundation, 1640 Lelia Drive Suite 130, Jackson, Miss. 39216.

BATESVILLE­— Charles L. Forester Jr., 82, died Monday, November 30, 2009, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi.

Graveside services were Wednesday at Old Cumberland Church Cemetery near Houston. Wells Funeral Home had charge.

Forester, born May 18, 1927, in Yazoo City, to the late Charles L. and Katherine Parker Forester Sr., was  a Methodist and served in the U.S. Marine Corps. He was a lawn and garden store owner for over 20 years.

Survivors include: his wife, Fay Forester of Batesville; one son, Charles “Chuck” Forester of Kenton, Tenn.; three grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

CHARLESTON— Pauline “Polly” Cox Newton, 92, died Monday, November 23, 2009.

Services were Friday, November 27 at Bethel Church. Burial was in Bethel Cemetery. Newsom Funeral Home had charge.

While teaching school at Teasdale she met and married Davis Newton with whom she spent the next 44 years until he passed in 1984.

She was preceded in death by a grandson, Brady Little, her parents, John and Lillie Cox and brothers and sisters, Leona Newman, Bessie Dennington, Marie Wolfe, John Cox, Jess Cox, Inez Mooney, Raymond Cox, Charlie Clyde Cox, Morris Cox, Maifred Houston Boling and Annie Maude Kelly.

Survivors include: three sons, Bill Newton and his wife, Lilly of Crowder, Roger Newton and his wife, Carolyn of New Orleans and Jim Newton and his wife, Glenda of Charleston; one daughter, Pat Little and her husband, Tommie;  one sister, Thelma Skeahan of Birmingham and one brother, Harmon Cox and his wife, Margie of Clarksdale; eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

The family asks in lieu of flowers that memorials be made to Bethel Cemetery or any chosen charitable organization.

OLIVE BRANCH— Dr. Idah M. Cannon Pollard, 64, formerly of Batesville, died Tuesday, December 1, 2009, at St. Francis Select Care in Memphis.

Services will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at New Bethlehem M.B. Church. Rev. T.L. McCray will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held today from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. at Cooley’s Mortuary. Cooley’s Mortuary has charge.

Pollard, born Jan. 4, 1945, in Sardis, to the late James M. Cannon and Leona Throw Cannon, graduated from Tulane University of Louisiana Medical School, Jackson State University, Mississippi State University and Michigan State University.

She was a family practice physician at Idah Cannon MD Family Clinic in Memphis.

He was a member of Macedonia M.B. Church – Boxtown, Memphis.

Survivors include: her husband, Marshall C. Pollard of Olive Branch; one sister, Francella Joiner of Memphis; one brother, John Cannon of Batesville and five step-children.

BATESVILLE— Ja’Nay Nicole Sanford, 15, died Thursday, November 19, 2009.

Services were held Saturday, November 28 at Williams Funeral Home in Vicksburg. Kimberly Fisher officiated.

Sanford, born Nov. 27, 1993, attended the Child Development Center and the Batesville Elementary School from the age of three until her death.

She received many certificates and awards over the years. For several years she won blue ribbons in the wheel chair race at the Special Olympics.

Survivors include: her mother, Renee’ L. Sanford of Batesville; her father, Lee Roy Sanford; five brothers, Shawn Sanford, Armond Sanford, Lee Roy Sanford, Donell Sanford and Dontrell Sanford; two sisters, Angela and LaTonya Sanford; her grandmother, Jean Robinson.

SARDIS— Reginald Deshuan Stevenson, 23, died Sunday, November 27, 2009, from injuries received in an automobile accident.

Services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at St. Peter M.B. Church in Sardis. Rev. Odell Draper Jr. will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Delta Burial has charge.

Stevenson, born Jan. 28, 1986, to Donna Perry of Sardis and Ira Joe Perry of Corinth, graduated from South Panola High School. He attended Northwest Community College and was a member of St. Peter M.B. Church.

Survivors along with his parents include: three brothers, Johnathan Wright of Marks, Jeremy Jones of Monroe, La. and Ira Perry of Batesville; one sister, Felisha Perry of Batesville; one son, Jayden Jones of St. Louis and his grandmother, Jettie Stevenson of Sardis.

COURTLAND— Christine Tabor, 76, died Friday, November 27, 2009.

Services will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. at West Camp M.B. Church. Rev. Eugene Brown will officiate. Burial will be in Macedonia Cemetery. Visitation is Friday from 5 p.m. to service time. Henderson Funeral Home has charge.

Tabor, born Aug. 29, 1933, to the late Edward Lock and Temp Lofton, was a homemaker and a membr of West Camp M.B. Church.

Survivors include: one daughter, Ruby Milan of Courtland and four sons, Eugene Harris and Uly C. Tabor, both of Memphis, David Tabor of Batesville and Willie Tabor of Clarksdale.

BATESVILLE— Marion Fonda Sullivan, 92, died Monday, November, 30, 2009.

Services were Wednesday at Dickins Funeral Home. Dr. P.J. Scott of First Baptist Church officiated. Burial was in the Sumner Cemetery. Dickins Funeral Home had charge.

Sullivan, born Dec. 8, 1916, to the late James Pascal and Minnie Elizabeth Slaughter Sullivan, was a carpenter. He joined the U.S. Army and fought from 1941 – 1945 earning many medals, badges and ribbons as a corporal in the Second Armored Division. He served first in North Africa and then in the European Theater until the very end of WWII.

Survivors include: his wife, Agnes Hill Kerr Sullivan; one step-daughter, Sylvia Kerr Sanders and her husband, Joe Sanders and his step-sons, John Kerr and Dennis Kerr.

Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church.
