ND Pee Wee opens season with shutout

The North Delta Junior High’s regularly scheduled football game  against Calhoun Academy was  Thursday night was canceled due to a flu outbreak at Calhoun.

There was however a football game played as North Delta’s pee wee football team opened up the 2009 season with a 26-0 blanking of the Cougars.

Jackson Sims got the Green Wave on the board with a 30- yard touchdown run in the first quarter. Quarterback Russ Lewis then connected with Eli Wilson on a 42-yard scoring reception in the second quarter as North Delta took a 12-0 lead at intermission.

  The Waves expanded their lead in the third quarter when Dennis King scored on an eight-yard  touchdown run.  Tripp Savage ran in the successful two-point attempt  for a 20-0 Green Wave lead.

Calhoun’s only scoring chance came late in the fourth quarter, but was snuffed out by a Jacob Finnel interception. Lewis then put the finishing touches on the game as he raced 90 yards on the last play of the game. Leslie Taylor also picked off a pass for the Green Wave defense. Bradley Turner added a fumble recovery.

Both teams will at travel to Indianola Thursday night beginning at 5:30 p.m.
