Myrtis Tidwell Dees

SARDIS–Myrtis Tidwell Dees, 94, died Saturday, April 18, 2009, at her residence.

Services were Monday at the Sardis United Methodist Church. Rev. Dayna Goff, Hal Johnson and Sam Godfrey officiated. Burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery. Ray-Nowell Funeral Home had charge.

Dees, born July 16, 1914, to the late William Alexander Tidwell and Pearl Vick Tidwell, in the Mount Olivet Comminty was a charter member of the Sardis Woman’s Club, member of the Heflin House Museum and the Panola Playhouse. She was a member of the American Red Cross, the local PTA and the Sardis Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School for over 50 years. She served several years as the church treasurer.

She was preceded in death by her husband, H.E. Dees.

Survivors include: one son, William Lee Dees of Sardis and her sister-in-law, Louvene Linder of the Mount Olivet Community.

Memorials may be made to the Sardis Methodist Church or Holy Innocents Church of Como.

John Ralph Egbert

BATESVILLE–John Ralph Egbert, 81, died Sunday, April 19, at his residence.

Services will be held today at 1 p.m. at Wells Funeral Home. Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. until the funeral service. Burial will be in Magnolia Cemetery. Rev. Martin Case and Rev. Pat Ludlam will officiate. Wells Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

Egbert, born Nov. 4, 1927, to the late Ralph P. and Helen Elizabeth Bloomfield Egbert ,was a retired mail carrier for the U.S. Postal Service. He was the former owner of Skyline Motel in Batesville and a member of the Methodist Church.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Bertha Dell Fisher Egbert; one son, Larry Thomas Egbert; one sister, Lois Egbert Webb and one grandchild, William Chase Egbert.

Survivors include: two sons, Ralph Myer Egbert and his wife, Sandra of Batesville and John Chester Egbert and wife, Gretchen of Moss Point; seven grandchildren, Bill Egbert of Batesville, Megan Egbert of Jackson, Clint Egbert of Batesville, John Micah Egbert of Laurel, Chelsea Egbert and Austin Egbert of Moss Point and one great-grandchild, Tyler Egbert.

Alton Cecil Flowers

HULL, TEXAS–Alton Cecil Flowers, 65, born in Enid, died Monday, April 6, 2009, at his friend’s residence in Baytown, Texas.

Navarre Funeral Home in Baytown, Texas had charge.

Flowers born April 27, to the late Lemmie P. Flowers and Willie Frances Flowers, was a truck driver. He served in the Navy.

Survivors include: his wife, Wanda Neely Flowers of Hull; two sons, James Flowers of Texarkana and Robert Neely of Hull and three sisters, Ann Flowers of Memphis, Peggy G. Flowers of Baytown and Beatrice Walthall of Sarah.

The family requests that memorials be made to the American Cancer Society.

Dorothy Jean Greer

CHARLESTON– Dorothy Jean Greer, 72, died Saturday, April 11, 2009. She was the mother of Mike Vines of Batesville.

Services were Monday, April 13, at Community Full Gospel Church. Burial was in the Charleston Cemetery. Newsom Funeral Home had charge.

Greer was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bobby Greer.

Survivors along with her son include: two daughters, Donna Mitchell of Little Rock and Melody Parker of Charleston; one son, Rick Vines of Tupelo; five sisters, nine brothers; 11 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Ruby Frances Thomas Haynes

SARDIS– Ruby Frances Thomas Haynes, 88, died April 18, 2009, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi from complications from pneumonia.

Services were Monday at Wells Funeral Home. Burial was in Hebron Cemetery in Sardis. Wells Funeral Home had charge.

Haynes, born Aug. 1, 1920, to Grady and Mimi Dona Thomas, graduated from Ashland High School. She was a member of Hebron Baptist Church and the Home Demonstration Club.

She was preceded in death by her husband of over 67 years, J.R. Haynes and one daughter, Connie Weeks.

Survivors include: two daughters, Sandra Haynes of Sardis and Sonia Jay and husband, Elton of Brandon; one son, Boby Haynes and his wife, Joyce of Batesville; six grandchildren and a niece who was raised with her like a sister, Catherine Pope and her husband Duane of Bolton, Tenn.
