James Ellis Sr.

MEMPHIS– James Ellis Sr., 66, formerly of Batesville, died Saturday, February 28, 2009, at his residence.

Services are Saturday at 11 a.m. at Emmanuel Temple C.O.G.I.C. in Memphis. Burial will be in New Park Cemetery. Visitation is today from 3 p.m. – 6 p.m. at Cooley’s Mortuary and Saturday 9 a.m. – 11 a.m. at Emmanuel Church of God in Christ in Memphis. Cooleys’ Mortuary has charge.

Ellis, born to Vernice Oliver Ellis of Batesville and the late Charlie Ellis, was a member of Emmanuel Temple Church of God in Christ.

Survivors along with his mother include: his wife, Dorothy P. Ellis of Memphis; seven daughters, Debra Ann Lockett, Barbara Alexander, Latercia Woodlaw and Jackie Thompson, all of Memphis, Carlean Lovelady of Orlando, Vernice Ellis and Demetrius Ellis, both of Oakland, Calif.; two sons, James Ellis Jr. and Carl Pratt, both of Oakland, Calif.; two sisters, Rosie Sanders of Sardis and Eula Ellis of Memphis; five brothers, Willie B. Ellis, Worn G. Ellis and Foster Patton, all of Batesville, George Ellis and Walter Ellis, both of Memphis; 37 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.


Ernest Tucker

SARDIS– Ernest Tucker, 87, died Tuesday, February 24, 2009, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Desoto.

Services were Thursday at Greater Harvest C.O.G.I.C. in Sardis. Burial was in Eureka Cemetery. Henderson Funeral Home had charge. Elder Willie Parker officiated.

Tucker, born March 1, 1921, to the late Robert Tucker and Bessie Ellis Tucker, was a labor worker and a member of C.O.G.I.C. in Sardis.

Survivors include: seven daughters, Shirley Adams, Bessie Tucker, Dorothy Tucker and Vera Ann Tucker, all of Milwaukee, Emma Russell of Jackson, Ruby Tucker and Bel Jones Harris, both of Detroit and four sons, Willie Tucker of Milwaukee, Antonia Tucker, Willie Tucker and Author Tucker Jr., all of Detroit.
