Batesville police have charged Tenisha Jones, 202 Lester Street, Batesville, with aggravated assault following an altercation involving a knife Sunday night, March 1.
Officers responding to a disturbance call involving weapons found Michael Cooper, 202C Lester, with a “severe laceration above his right eye and a laceration to his right hand,” Batesville Police Sergeant Gray Nickels’ report stated.
Cooper told police that he had been “in a physical altercation outside of his apartment with Jerrod Jones,” Nickels’ report stated. “Jerrod’s sister Tenisha Jones attacked him with a large knife,” the report alleged. Officers found the accused assailant in the next apartment.
“She immediately began stating that she attacked Cooper because he was beating up her brother,” the report continued. At the officers’ request, she directed them to the knife. She was transported to the Panola County jail.
Other activity reported by the Batesville Police Department during the weekend included the driving under the influence arrest of Myron Montrell Walton on West Street Friday, Feb. 28 by Patrolman Donnie Dotson. Ashley Dawn Robinson was charged with a second DUI, driving while license suspended, following too closely and possession of open alcohol container, Patrolman Brandon Moses’ report stated. She was arrested on Highway 6 East March 2. Ernestine Smith was stopped at Pearson and Lomax Street and charged with driving while license suspended, no liability insurance and disregard for traffic device by Patrolman Dotson.
Patrolman Brandon Moses investigated a motorist who ran off Highway 35 and struck two mailboxes early Sunday morning.
