The South Panola Baseball team (1-1) traveled to Cleveland for non-district action Tuesday and walked away with a 23-2 win.

Leadoff hitter David Renfroe started the game with a home run over the left field wall.

“It went about 100 feet behind the wall,” South Panola head coach Patrick Robey said.

The Tigers scored two more runs in the first inning, but it was the second and third innings that sealed Cleveland’s fate. South Panola scored 10 runs in the second inning and eight in the third.

Joseph Blair hit a grand slam home run in the second inning. Also hitting a home run in the game was pinch hitter Zachary Horne, hitting for Coty Bryant.

Ethan Bright pitched three innings and allowed one hit to get the win. Whit Whitten pitched in relief the last two innings and allowed one hit.

Also hitting for the Tigers were Bright, 3-for-3, triple, 2 singles; Blair, 2-for-3, grand slam, single; Matt Hendrix, 2-for-3, double, single;  Whitten, 3-for-3, two doubles; Horne, 1-for-1, home run; Wesley Greg, 1-for-3, Dane Broome, 1-for-2, Bryant, 1-for-4 and Corbin Moore, 1-for-3.

The Tigers will travel to Oxford to take on Lafayette County today. Due to incoming inclement weather, game time has been changed to 3 p.m. starting with the varsity game. If time and weather allows, the junior varsity game will be played afterwards.

Robey said Lafayette’s team is “young but talented.”

Saturday, the Tigers will travel to Southaven for games at 11 a.m. junior varsity and 1 p.m. varsity.

“They didn’t lose a lot,” Robey said. “Tyler Brant is the pitcher. They will be tough. It will be a good match for us.”
