Passing car, head-on collision claims life of Panola native

A Pope man was killed January 23 in a head-on collision west of Batesville.

Leroy Chapman, 46, was pronounced dead on the scene following the automobile accident, said coroner Gracie Grant-Gulledge.

A highway patrol report shows that Chapmanā€™s automobile was struck when a second vehicle was attempting to pass a third vehicle.

The accident occurred near Chapel Town Road.

Chapman was a Panola County native. He was born in the Eureka community, said his wife, Brinda Chapman.

He was employed as a contractor by Mastec in Batesville.

Funeral services for Chapman are set for Friday at 1 p.m. at Eureka A.M.E. Zion Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Visitation is set for Thursday from 3 p.m. until 7 at the church.

Chapman leaves behind one daughter, LaPeatreya Chapman, and a son, Laroyis Chapman. His family also includes 11 sisters and nine brothers.
