Mother of Police Chief

Services for Ora Estelle Jones, 83, will be Saturday, January 17, 2009. She was the mother of Batesville Police Chief Tony Jones.

Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. in the Wells Funeral Chapel followed by the funeral at 11 a.m.

Jones was born April 22, 1925 to the late Jim Prestage and Alida Potts Prestage of Water Valley. She married Harold Edward Jones in 1942 in Marks. She was retired from Garan Industries of Lambert, a homemaker and member of the Goodwill Church of God.

In addition to her parents and husband, Jones was preceded in death by three brothers, three sisters and one grandson.

Survivors include her brother, Charles Prestage of Senatobia; her sister, Elsie Pettit of Fresno, CA; her daughter, Barbara Phillips of Jacksonville, NC; two sons in addition to Tony Jones, Vernon Jones of Oxford and Glenn Jones of Marks; eight grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.
