A Coldwater man has been charged by Batesville Police for making a bomb threat, but not the threat made in a note left on the door of Kenneth Brasell’s store January 2 nor the threat phoned to Wal-Mart on January 4.

Cory Mays, age 22, 569 Hassell Road, Coldwater was charged Friday, Jan. 9 after an employee at Murphy USA, the Wal-Mart gas outlet, “stated that he got a call from his co-workers (sic) Boyfriend … stating that he was going to blow up the building,” according to BPD Patrolman Shawn Dalton’s report.

Mays is alleged to have made the threat about 12:44 p.m. Friday, BPD Deputy Police Chief Don Province said.

“I then spoke to the girlfriend … and she stated that she and her boyfriend were having problems in their relationship” and that her boyfriend “was just mad at her and she did not think he would do anything to the building or her,” Dalton’s report continued.

Mays’ alleged threat came on the heels of an extensive manpower deployment and business interruptions caused by the threats on Jan. 2 and Jan. 4.

“He picked the wrong time to be threatening somebody with a bomb,” Province said.

Province said that no arrests have yet been made in the earlier threats.
