Batesville police on Wednesday released a composite drawing of a white male in his 40s who was the subject of an intense search a day earlier.

Police say the man had forced his way into a home in the Dogwood Hills subdivision about 3 p.m. Tuesday and asked for the name of a female who lives in the area.

An adult female let the suspect into the home and said she did not know the woman he was looking for, said BPD Detective Paul Shivers. The man then left without injuring the woman, he said.

Shivers said the victim phoned 911 at 3:19 p.m. to report the incident, which police are considering a home invasion. Likely charges include burglary and an assault.

The suspect was wearing a black shirt and gray pants, and weighed about 200 pounds. Police are offering a cash reward for information that leads to the man’s arrest and conviction.

“He had hair that was greasy, like he’d just woken up,” Shivers said. The man also had acne.

Police did not release the name of the victim or the address of the home.

By 3:30 Tuesday afternoon a search of the area was under way. Armed with a good description of the man, police were patrolling the neighborhood, knocking on doors, and walking on foot at homes near Interstate 55.

The victim did not know if the man fled on foot or jumped into an automobile, police said at the time.

The search continued until dark, said Police Chief Tony Jones.

Shivers said police did locate a person in the area who shared the same named described by the suspect.

“She said she didn’t know him,” the detective said.
