Bert Rayne Brown

POPE– Bert Rayne Brown, 74, died Tuesday, November 25, 2008, at his residence.
Services were Saturday at Dickins Funeral Home. Burial was in Forrest Memorial Park. Dickins Funeral Home had charge.

Brown, born Feb. 17, 1934, to the late Horace Milton Brown and the late Belfield Snipes Brown, was a veteran of the Korean War with the rank of PFC. He was a member of Jackson Grove Church of Christ and a retired employee from Union National Insurance Company.

Survivors include: his wife, Martha Lee Still Brown of Pope; one daughter, Melanie Hughes and husband, Blake of Pope; two sisters, Mary Smith of Pope and Velda Carter of Batesville and grandson, Cody Brown of Pope. Memorials may be made to Jackson Grove Church of Christ, 391 Bethel Rd., Enid, Miss. 38927.

Frank Harris

SARDIS– Frank Harris, 66, died Thursday, November 27, 2008, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi.

Services are Friday at 1 p.m. at Macedonia M.B. Church. Rev. Zannie Leland Jr. will officiate. Visitation will be Thursday from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. at Cooley’s Mortuary and Friday from noon – 1 p.m. at Macedonia M.B. Church. Burial will be in Macedonia Cemetery. Cooley’s Mortuary has charge.

Harris, born Oct. 4, 1942, to Pearl Carr of Batesville and the late Johnny Harris, was a retired truck driver and a member of Macedonia M.B. Church.

Survivors along with his mother include: his wife, Clara L. Harris of Sardis; four daughters, Sharon Hill of Kenner, La., Shelia Morris of Nashville, Tenn., Teresa Fisher of Otka, Okla. and LaKeisha Washington of Columbia, S.C.; four sons, Ricky Harris of Batesville, Jeremy Harris of Sardis, Calvin Harris of Como and Willie Frank Harris of Sardis; three sisters, Jearldean Campbell  and Erica Harris, both of Batesville and Mattie Sanders of Sardis; eight brothers, Howard Harris and Jerry Harris, both of Batesville, Eugene Harris and Paul Carr, both of Chicago, Terry Harris of Sardis, Lois Lee “Terry” Carr, Maurice Carr of Jackson and David Carr of Atlanta; 26 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Myrtle E. Lauderdale

SARDIS– Myrtle E. Lauderdale, 97, died Sunday, November 30, 2008, at Sardis Nursing Home.

Services are today at 1:30 p.m. at Wells Funeral Home Chapel. Hal Johnson, Robert Rawson and Michael Bates will officiate. Burial will be in Clarksdale Memorial Gardens. Visitation is today at noon until service time at the funeral home. Wells Funeral Home has charge.

Lauderdale, born Dec. 18, 1910, in Lafayette County, to the late Grover C. and Annie White, was retired from Wonder Bread Bakery in Clarksdale and a member of Batesville Church of Christ.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James Ivy Lauderdale.

Survivors include: three sons, Jimmy Lauderdale of Clarksdale, Scott Lauderdale of Sardis and Donald Lauderdale of Livingston, Ala.; one sister, Valley Terry of Kalamazoo, Mich.; 12 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be sent to Sardis Lake Christian Camp.

Carrie Thomas

SARDIS– Carrie Thomas, 89, died Monday, November 24, 2008, at Sardis Community Nursing Home.

Services were Saturday at Kingdom Hall of Jevohah’s Witnesses. Roosevelt Gooch officiated. Burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery. Henderson Funeral Home had charge.

Thomas, born August 24, 1919, to the late Riley Johnson and the late Aslean Kuykendall Johnson, was a farmer and a member of Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses.

Survivors include: six daughters, Hattie B. Barquet and Elaine Hanks, both of Milwaukee, Wis., Cathedral Short of Sardis, Elizabeth Curry of Birmingham, Ala., Jeanette Thomas of Memphis and Doris Thomas Ferrell of Como; four sons, James E. Thomas of Milwaukee, Wis., Robert L. Thomas of Como, Julius Thomas of Milwaukee, Wis. and Alexander Thomas of Sardis and four sisters, Matilda Keys of Sardis, Alberdean Turner and Bert Joy, both of Milwaukee, Wis. and Mae Ella Joseph of Texas.


Ralph Edwin Sosebee Sr.

Ralph Edwin Sosebee, Sr, 83,  died Wednesday, November 26, 2008, at Tranquility Hospice in Austell, Ga.  

Services were Saturday at Davis-Struemph Funeral Home in Austell, Ga with Dr. Randal Whitten and Darin Wright officiating. Burial was in Sawnee View Gardens in Cumming, Ga.  

He was born to the late Maxie Tinsley Redd Sosebee and Robert Solomon Sosebee in Forsyth County, Ga. on October 8, 1925.   

 He served in the Navy as photographer in the final years of WWII and later for the Atlanta Police Department.  He owned and operated Sosebee Realty and Development in Mableton, Ga. for over 58 years where he developed land, built homes and sold real estate. He was a Mason and a member of Mt Harmony Baptist Church.  

His wife of 50 years, Anne Cooper Sosebee preceded him in death.

He is survived by children, R. Edwin Sosebee Jr. of LaGrange, Ga., Jane S. Buchanan of Marietta, Ga. and Richard A. Sosebee of Oakland.

He is also survived by grandchildren, Cole M. Buchanan of Crested Butte, Colo.,  Cason B. Durand of Covington, Ga.,  Jaclyn Lee Sosebee of Athens, Ga. and Andrew C. Sosebee of Oakland and one great grandchild, Cope Durand.

Memorials may be  made to North Delta School or The American Cancer Society.
