BATESVILLE- Annie Lee Barnes Crouch, 85, died Sunday, November 2, 2008.

Services were Tuesday at Liberty Hill Baptist Church in Pope. Burial was in Liberty Hill Cemetery. Dickins Funeral Home had charge.

Crouch, born July 18, 1923, to the late William Luster Barnes and the late Nellie Mae Davis Barnes, was a factory worker.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jiles Elliott Crouch and one son, Jiles William Crouch.

Survivors include: five daughters, Joyce Ann Lawson, Carolyn Dee Perkins, Janice Nell Browning and Cherry Lynn Craven, all of Batesville and Judy Cerise Abernathy of Tipton, Okla.; two sisters, Earlene Mancell of Lonoke, Ark. and Edna Nottke of Little Rock, Ark.; three brothers, Jowel Barnes and Linder Barnes, both of Lonoke, Ark. and Pete Mars of Plato; 15 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

Raymond and Virginia Holland died on November 5, 2008.  This couple was married for 62 years and died within 12 hours of each other due to natural causes. 

A  joint funeral service will be held at First Baptist Church in Coffeeville on Saturday at 11 a.m. Visitation will be at First Baptist Church in Coffeeville, from 5 – 8 p.m. on Friday. Garner Harper Funeral Home has charge.

They were preceded in death by a grandson, Lee Hanks Holland.

 Raymond and Virginia are survived by two sons, Danny R. Holland (Linda) of Batesville and Greg R. Holland (Debbie) of Carriere; granddaughters, Dana Kinney, Leigh Ann Holland and Megan Holland.

 Raymond was born in Hughes, Ark., in 1922, to James and Bertha Holland.  Raymond’s family included 10 children with 6 surviving siblings.  He served in the United States Navy in the South Pacific during World War II.  A graduate of Mississippi State College in 1948 in Ag Economics, he served 34 years as County Director of the ASCS Office in both Panola and Yalobusha counties.  As an active member of the Sardis community, he was involved with the Chamber of Commerce and Lion’s Club.  At Sardis First Baptist Church, he served as a Deacon and Sunday School teacher.  His active membership is now at First Baptist Church of Coffeeville.

 Virginia was born in Water Valley, in 1929, to Levarda and Hezzie Mae Purdy.  She was preceded in death by her brother, Harold Purdy. She was a homemaker,  and a member of the Sardis Woman’s Club and Sardis First Baptist Church.  Her active membership is now at First Baptist Church of Coffeeville. 

 Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 326 Ellsworth St., Memphis, TN 38111, in Raymond and Virginia Holland’s name.

CROWDER– Herman Wright Macknally Jr., 62, died Monday, November 3, 2008, at the University Medical Center in Jackson.

Services are today at 2 p.m. at Crowder Assembly of God.  Visitation is today noon until service time at the church. Burial will be in Crowder Cemetery. Rev. Murphy Eubank will officiate. Kimbro Funeral Home has charge.

Macknally, born March 8, 1946, in Lambert, was a member of Crowder Assembly of God. He was a contractor.

Survivors include: his wife, Judy Macknally of Crowder; three daughters, Gidget Evans of Hernando, Hermanda Clark Sayles of Locke Station, Cassie Carwile of Memphis; two brothers, James Therman Macknally of Coldwater and Billy Macknally of Pope; four sisters, Mary Self of Crowder, Betty Chun of Marks, Louise Metcalf of Memphis and Diane Thrasher of Crowder; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Memorials may be made to Lion’s Eye Bank in Jackson or American Diabetes Association.

CRENSHAW– Melzina McGlothian, 85, died Wednesday, November 5, 2008, at her residence.

Services are Saturday at 1 p.m. at Springhill M.B. Church in Crenshaw. Pastor Johnny Jones will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation is today 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. at Cooley’s Mortuary. Cooley’s Mortuary has charge.

McGlothian, born Nov. 7, 1922, in Vaiden, to the late Fred Kelson and the late Christina Billingsley, was a homemaker and a member of Springhill M.B. Church. She was a member of the Eastern Star.

Survivors include: four daughters, Earnestine Hammond, Josephine McGlothian, both of Crenshaw, Caroline Hibbler of Sledge and Gladys Morgan of Milwaukee; six sons, Jimmy Lee McGlothian, Harold McGlothian, Abron McGlothian, Sylvester McGlothian, all of Crenshaw, Floyd McGlothian of Southaven and David McGlothian of Milwaukee; three sisters, Mildred Buck of Crenshaw, Helen Buck of Cleveland, Ohio and Freddie Newman of Milwaukee; three brothers, T.W. Kelson of Crenshaw, Wardell Kelson of Sardis and LeRoy Kelson of Florida; 28 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.

CLARKSDLAE– Callie Lorene Robertson, 91, died Tuesday, November 4, 2008, at Clarksdale Nursing Home.

Services are Saturday at 2 p.m. at Kimbro Funeral Home. Burial will be in Memorial Gardens. Rev. John Shackleford will officiate. Kimbro Funeral Home has charge.

Robertson, born June 1, 1917, in Winona, was a member of Oakhurst Baptist Church. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include: one daughter, Shelia Robertson of Las Vegas; four sons, James F. Robertson of Tampa, Fla., Jim W. Robertson of Las Vegas, Stanley L. Robertson of Enid, Billy W. Robertson of Crenshaw; one sister, Ann Willis of Clarksdale; 14 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

COURTLAND– Robert Frank “R.F.” Rowsey, 80, died Tuesday, November 4, 2008, at his residence.

Services were Thursday at Pope Baptist Church Burial was in Antioch Cemetery. Dickins Funeral Home had charge.

Rowsey, born July 11, 1928, to the late Robert Frank Rowsey Sr. and the late Lucile Inez Watters Rowsey, was a graduate of Mississippi College. He was a teacher and coach for Pope School. He spent three years in the army as a radio operator. He was a member of the Courtland Baptist Church but active at Pope Baptist Church. He was a member of the Pan Gens, collected arrow heads, was a farmer of cattle and cotton. He was a member of Panola FSA county committee and alaso a member of Farm Bureau.

Survivors include: his wife, Lillian Campbell Rowsey; one daughter, Angelia Rowsey of Southaven; two sons, Kent Rowsey of Courtland and Perrin Rowsey of Bartlett, Tenn.; one brother, Jimmy Rowsey of Courtland and five grandchildren.

Memorials can be made to Baptist Children’s Village in Jackson.

SARDIS– Mary Francis Salter, 93, died Tuesday, November 4, 2008, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Desoto.

Services are Sunday at 2 p.m. at Simon Chapel No. 2 M.B. Church with the Rev. David Craft officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Hodges-Serenity Funeral Home in Oxford has charge.

Salter was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Willie Salter  Sr.

Survivors include: three daughters, Varnia Johnson of Memphis, Emmer Caldwell and  Louise Lewis, both of Chicago; four sons, Bemmis Blake of South Bend, Ind., John Salter of Olive Branch, Jessie Salter and Willie Salter Jr, all of Sardis; one sister, Willie Mae Love of Memphis; one brother, Brady Hill of Memphis; a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

BOLIVAR, Tenn.– Margie Collins Brown Williams, 87, died Thursday, November 6, 2008, at Bolivar General Hospital.

Graveside services are Saturday at 2 p.m. at Woodlawn Cemetery in Grenada. National Funeral Home has charge.

Williams, born May 14, 1921, was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church in Grenada. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of VFW Post 4488. She was the former owner/operator of the Little Widget in Grenada and Margie and Leon’s in Batesville.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, Billie Boyd Williams and Leon Brown.

Survivors include: two sons, Vernon Leon “Butch” Brown of Bolivar, Tenn. and Gary Frank Brown of Boise, Idaho; two step-sons, Billie Williams and Russell Williams, both of Batesville; four step-grandchildren and seven step-great-grandchildren.
