After a 1-4 start, the South Panola Lady Tiger softball team seems to have gotten rid of some early season jitters and has found themselves on a four-game unbeaten streak heading into Spring Break with a 4-4-1 record.

The Lady Tigers played four games in five days last week, winning three and tying one.

After defeating Lake Cormorant last Tuesday, South Panola hammered Southaven 14-4 Thursday before coming  back from a 6-1 deficit to defeat Lafayette County 8-6 in the FNC tournament. They then tied Pontotoc 4-4 in five innings after trailing 4-1.

Tyler Hamby led South Panola at the plate against Southaven with two singles, a triple and five runs batted in. Kaitlyn Tidwell added a double and two singles while earning the pitching win. Gracey Harbour scored three runs.

Through seven games, the Lady Tigers are sporting a .315 team batting average with junior shortstop Haven Dulin, Hamby and Harbour all batting over .400.

The Tigers will be heading to Gulf Shores, Ala.. Friday and Saturday to take part in the Pleasure Island Showdown tournament. South Panola will play Baldwin Co. (Ala.) at 4 p.m Friday followed by Tipton-Rosemark Academy of Millington, Tenn., at 7 p.m.

South Panola Junior Varsity takes on New Hope Saturday morning at 9:30 a.m. then Choctaw Central at 11:30 a.m. The varsity Lady Tigers face  Fairhope, Ala., also at 11:30 a.m.

The Tigers return home next Tuesday (March 17) to host Cleveland Central at 4 p.m and Senatobia at 7 p.m

In the Lake Cormorant game, Haven Dulin’s bases clearing double sparked a five-run fifth inning for South Panola that led to the win.

Tyler Hamby and Bailey Ware registered two hits apiece as part of a nine-hit Tiger offensive attack. Bailey Russell, Kaitlyn Tidwell, Molly Seay and McKenzie Perkins provided singles.

Rebekah Cook went seven innings in the pitching circle to pick up the win as the junior gave up four runs (three earned) on six hits and two strikeouts while not allowing a walk.

South Panola led 5-0 after three innings before Lake Cormorant scratched across two runs in the fourth off a Cook who had previously retired the first nine batters she had faced.

Gracey Harbour and Makenzi Houston also drove in a run each for South Panola who improved to 2-4 on the season.
