Staff Report
Batesville Boy Scout Troop 478 will have its annual Summer Camp Fundraiser at the Batesville Lions Club, 524 Tiger Drive, next Tuesday, March 3.
Spaghetti plates including drink and dessert will be served from 6-7 p.m. Dinner tickets are $8. Carry-out plates will be available from 5:30-7 p.m. There will be a silent auction and door prizes.
The highlight of the evening will be a performance by Order of the Arrow members, who display Native American costumes and authentic dances. The event will give the public an opportunity to review Troop 478’s recent community service programs and camping trips as well as information on upcoming events.
Asst. Scoutmaster Judge Smith Murphey said the summer camps local Scouts are able to attend are critical to their continued rank advancement toward earning an Eagle Scout designation.
Without fundraisers, and the support of local businesses and individuals, some of the summer camp experiences would not be an option for families.
Local leaders have organized summer trips to a variety of locations in the Southeast and further for many years, providing opportunities for Troop 478 Boy Scouts that would not have been offered through other summer programs.
The Troop has taken trips to southern Florida, including Sea Base, among other destinations. Last year the Scouts took a whitewater rafting trip on the Ocoee River and hope to raft the Chattooga River this year.
