SP younger teams take down Horn Lake

The South Panola ninth grade and B-teams had little trouble with Horn Lake Monday night as the Tigers defeated the Eagles 32-6 and 20-6, respectively.

The ninth grade played first and Tiger Kevin Rudd scored the first touchdown on a four-yard run with 5:55 to go in the first quarter. The two point conversion failed.

Rudd rushed for a 26-yard touchdown with 1:30 left to go in the quarter and scored the two-point conversion for the 14-0 lead.

In the second quarter, Rudd sat down after the first possession and Temario Strong came in to carry the load. With 5:31 left in the first half, Strong scored on a 10-yard run, but the two-point ocnversion failed. The Tigers led 20-0 at halftime.

The Tigers came out in the third quarter ready to put some more points on the board. With 3:20 left in the quarter, quarterback Bobby Epps found Strong from one-yard out for the touchdown. The two-point conversion failed.

The final touchdown came in the fourth quarter on a Devonte Turner four-yard run with 1:34 left.

Horn Lake finally scored on a nine yard run with 2:52 left in the game, but missed the PAT.

Every South Panola player got to play, according to head coach Lance Pogue.

“We cleared the bench,” he said.

B-Team

The South Panola B-team was behind quarterback Lee Self.

The teams play two 20-minutes halves with no clock stoppage until the last two minutes unless a timeout is called.

The first touchdown was a three-yard run by Domonique Carothers with 13:34 left int he half. The two-point conversion by Self was good for the 8-0 lead.

Late in the half, Self found Kasey Livingston for a two-yard touchdown pass with 2:23 to go. The drive was aided by a nine-yard catch by Montez Griffin. The two-point conversion failed as South Panola led 12-0 at the half.

The last touchdown for the Tigers was scored on a 51-yard hookup from Self to Montez Griffin with 17:31 left in the half. The drive started with three runs of a total of 19 yard by Haven Magee. The two-point conversion was scored on a pass from Self to Matthew Brown to give the Tigers a 20-0 lead.

Horn Lake scored in the second half on a two yard run with 52 seconds left in the game, but missed the PAT.

The ninth grade is scheduld ot host CBHS on Thursday, October 23 at 5 p.m. The B-team and ninth grade are scheduled to host Greenvi9lle Monday, October 27 at 5:30 p.m.
