The Como Mayor and Board of Aldermen had some heavy issues to face in its monthly board meeting Tuesday.

The board members took exception to an article in The Panolian about the USDA $450,000 grant. Como Mayor Everett Hill and the board members were not given any credit for contributing to the grant for the wastewater plant.

The $250,000 BP grant for fixing Warren Street has hit a snag. Hill said he was told that would not cover all of Warren Street. He is hoping that an overlay would cover the street in its entirety. They are looking at all options because he will not agree to just fixing a portion of the street.

Board attorney Ravonda Griffin appeared before the board to update them on Jerry Cummins’ business at the corner of Highways 310 and 51 North which have U-haul trucks around the building. The Attorney General’s office said the city can fine him but the issue is personal property on the property. The AG’s office is not clear how to get him to move the trucks.

Hill asked if the city could move the trucks. He can but there is a cost in storing them and making sure no damage is done to the property while in city care.

The board decided to send a letter to the owner, Carl Lindberg of Fredrick Properties of Memphis, that he would be fined if the property is not kept clean.

The board also approved the claims docket of $41,765.35.
