Herron leading hitter In Cotton States ball

After 14 games this season in the Cotton State Baseball League, Nathan Herron of Batesville is the league leading batter with a .432 batting average.
A former South Panola High School player, he plays with the Jets in the summer league in New Albany.
He also plays at Belhaven College. As of July 11 with 37 at bats, he has 16 hits, seven runs, three doubles, one triple and a grand slam homerun.
He drew five walks and been hit by a pitch two times. He has struck out three times. Herron has had three successful stolen bases out of four tries.
Another former South Panola player, Brayden Lee also plays with the Jets. Lee has three hits and one run.
Luke Weldon, a recent South Panola graduate, is one of the pitchers for the Jets. Weldon has a 3.15 ERA and allowed 23 hits, 10 runs and struck out 13.
Founded in 2009, the Cotton States Baseball League – North Division is a pro-style, six team collegiate wooden bat league for players with college eligibility.
Players in the league at New Albany typically come from a 150-mile radius which includes Ole Miss, MSU, Delta State, Memphis, Arkansas State, Tennessee Techm, Jackson State, Blue Mountain College, and a number of area junior colleges.
Players that do not live within that radius are invited to apply if they have the means to arrange for housing, or have relatives living in the area.
The CBSL-North plays a 20-22 game schedule in June and July culminating with a League Championship Series (LCS) in late July. Games are typically played on Saturday, Sunday, and Tuesday and Thursday evenings dependent upon the weather.
