Obituaries (July 5th, 2019)

Mr. Thomas Riley Creswell, 86, passed away on Saturday, June 29, 2019, at St. Francis Hospital in Memphis.

Mr. Creswell was born on April 18, 1933, in Quitman County, to the late Lydia Vera Sprouse Creswell and Daniel Raiford Creswell. He proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict.

Mr. Creswell spent his early years running routes as a delivery driver before ultimately finding retirement from automotive sales. After retirement he went to school to become a casino card dealer and enjoyed his time meeting new people in that role.

Above all, Mr. Creswell was a loving family man who made sure his family was taken care of. He is remembered for always wearing a smile as he often told jokes.

He was a member of Whitehaven Baptist Church in Memphis, and he will surely be missed deeply by those who knew and loved him.

Mr. Creswell leaves behind his loving family which includes his son, Paul Kevin Creswell of Collierville, Tenn.; three daughters, Teresa Robin Creswell Marsh of Piperton, Tenn., Janet Lynn Creswell Farrar of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Anita Kay Creswell Stubbs of Collierville, Tenn.; six grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Graveside services were held with military honors on Tuesday, July 2, at Chapel Hill Cemetery in Pope, with Rev. Jim Meredith officiating.

Visitation was Tuesday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Dickins Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Chapel Hill Cemetery Fund. Dickins Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.

 

 

Funeral services for John Aurther Dean, 68, will be held today (July 5) at 1 p.m. at St. Peter’s M.B. Church in Sardis with burial at the church cemetery on Black Jack Rd.

He died Thursday, June 27, 2019, at his residence in Sardis.  He was born May 13, 1957, in Sardis.

Henderson Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.

 

 

Funeral services for Herman “Sonny” Ellis, 79, will be held Saturday, July 6, at 11 a.m. at Nelson Chapel M.B. Church with Pastor Melvin Ellis officiating.

Burial will follow at the Pope/Nelson Chapel Cemetery under the direction of Cooley’s Mortuary.

He died June 28, 2019, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Oxford. He was born Dec. 4, 1939, in Pope to Earl Ellis, Sr., and Bertha Ware Ellis. He was retired from Dulap & Kyle.

Visitation is today (Friday) from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Cooley’s. A family wake is scheduled for 4 p.m. The body will lie in repose Saturday, July 6, at the church from 10 to 11 a.m.

 

Eva Mae Hentz was born April 30, 1932, and died June 28, 2019,

Funeral services are today (July 5) at 11 a.m. at Cooley’s Mortuary Chapel with Pastor Larry Key officiating. Interment will be at Eureka Cemetery.

The family received friends Thursday at Cooley’s Mortuary.
