A memorial service will be held today (May 7) for Jimmy Arnold Carr, Sr.,  in the Martin Wilingham Memorial Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the family receiving friends prior to the service beginning at 1 p.m.

He died Friday, May 3, 2019, at Baptist Desoto Hospital in Southaven.

Mr. Carr was born June 21, 1936, in Batesville, to the late Littleton and Mary Tidwell Carr. He was a member of the Batesville Church of Christ and former Elder of the Central Academy Church of Christ.  He taught civil engineering at Northwest Mississippi Community College for 25 years,

 

Joy Irene Swindle Howe, age 77, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, May 1, 2019, at her home near Senatobia. She was a faithful servant to the Kingdom of God and mankind.

Funeral services werre Sunday, May 5,  at Faith Tabernacle United Pentecostal Church, 325 Lakewood Dr. in Batesville,  with the interment to follow at Forrest Memorial Park in Batesville.

The family received friends on Saturday evening, May 4,  at Wells Funeral Home.

Irene was born March 28, 1942, in Quitman County, to the late Thomas and Mary Jane Roberson Swindle. A nurse for 40 years, Irene began her career at Batesville Hospital and eventually retired from Tri-Lakes Medical Center.

During her career she was a recipient of the distinguished Florence Nightingale Award.

She was a prayer warrior and devoted member of her church. She enjoyed reading the Word of the Lord, attending church, and working in the Kingdom of God. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary; founder of the Little Ladies Auxiliary; assisted with long term planning sessions with church members; and was a Sunday School teacher and member of the public relations committee. She also sang in the choir.

Irene always made time to be with with her grandchildren, friends, and family, and welcomed them all to her table. She was known to make incredible desserts, which included a chocolate pie (that everyone wanted the recipe for) and intricately decorated birthday cakes. Her gift to many church members was to cater their wedding reception and make their wedding cake.

She enjoyed traveling to see her relatives near and far and also traveling to foreign countries. She particularly enjoyed her trip to the Holy Land where she was re-baptized in the Jordan River. She collected cookbooks, pins, and many friends over the years.

The loving family she leaves behind include her husband of 59 years, Aubrey Burns Howe;

 

Donna H. Porter, 65, died Saturday May 4, 2019, at her home in Pope. Per Mrs. Porter’s wishes, there will be no service.

She was born Sept. 10, 1953, Memphis, to the late Richard Terrell Hughes and Mabel Graham Hughes. She worked the majority of her life as a computer programmer.

 

Funeral services for Frederick Earl Street, 53, formerly of Courtland, were held Monday, May 6, at St. Peter’s M.B. Church with burial at Shiloh Church Cemetery.

He died April 28, 2019.

He was born Feb. 1, 1966, in Batesville, to Hosea Holmes and Theria Street Taylor. He was a forklift driver and a member of Salem M.B. Church.

 

A graveside service for Luther Lee Woodall, Sr., 73, was held Monday, May 6, at Forrest Memorial Park with Rev. Damon Plummer officiating. Wells Funeral Home had charge of arerangements.

He died Thursday, May 2, 2019, at his home in Senatobia. He was the husband of Ruth Woodall.

Mr. Woodall was born Dec. 4, 1945, in Oxford, to the late John Burford Woodall, Sr. and Kathleen Snell Woodall. He was a retired plumber and attended Hosanna Family Worship Center in Pope.
