Funeral services for Earl Wayne Capwell,  83, were Monday at Pope Baptist Church with burian in the Milton Brown Family Cemetery.

He died Saturday, April 27, 2019, at his home in Pope.

He was born Sept. 15, 1935, to the late Bertha Lou Lepard and Joseph Carl “Bass” Capwell in Camberg, Lafayette County. During his lifetime he worked as a truck driver and honorably served his country in the U.S. Navy.

Mr. Capwell was a member of Pope Baptist Church.

 

A celebration of life for Oliver Smylie Carothers, 95, will be announced by Wells Funeral Home when finalized by his family.

He died Sunday afternoon, April 28, 2019, at his home in Batesville.

He was born Jan.  2, 1924, to the the late Leona Thomas Lewis Carothers and John Boothe Carothers in Batesville. He worked for 40 years with Tennessee Gas and Pipeline, and honorably served his country in the U.S. Navy.

Mr. Carothers was a member of the First United Methodist Church.

 

Funeral services for Gladys Bernita Miller, 85, of Batesville, were held Friday, April 26, at Dickins Funeral Home with Rev. Tim Ellis officiating. Burial was at Hebron Cemetery.

She died Monday, April 22, 2019, in Baptist Hospital in Jackson.

Mrs. Miller was born Sept. 9, 1933, in Drew, to the late Alva Burchfield Bland and William Bland.  The widow of Bob Miller, she was a member of Bethany Baptist Church.

 

Funeral services for Ieshia Kierra McMurry, 25, will be today (April 30) at 1 p.m. at Mt. Olive M.B. Church with Pastor Jerome Battle officiating. Burial will follow at Antioch Church Cemetery in Courtland under the direction of Cooley’s Mortuary.

She died April 24, 2019, in Quitman County.

She was born Oct.  22, 1993, in Clarksdale to Sherry Lynn HInes and Dexter McMurry. She was a member of Mt. Olive M.B. Church.
