The Boys and Girls Club of North Mississippi will have hold its 18th annual Stake and Steak event Thursday at 6 p.m. at the Batesville Civic Center.
Speakers for this year’s program are Miss Mississippi Asya Branch and Rep. Lataisha Jackson, who represents District 11 in the Mississippi Legislature.
The fundraiser dinner is a yearly celebration of the service the Boys and Girls Club provides, and gives the organization’s supporters an opportunity to gather for an evening of entertainment provided by the children who attend the after-school and summer programs.
This year’s featured speakers were chosen for the inspiration their life stories and challenges can provide for local youth.
Branch was crowned Miss Mississippi in Vicksburg last year while competing as the Miss Tupelo contestant. The 20-year-old daughter of Kristal and Anthony Branch is a native of Boonville, and is a junior Integrated Marketing Communications major at Ole Miss. She hopes to pursue a career in public relations.
When she was chosen Miss Mississippi, her story of achievement despite growing up with an incarcerated parent was published in newspaper and magazine across the nation.
Rep. Jackson was born in Panola County and attended North Panola Schools. She holds a master’s degree in Education Leadership from Alabama State University.
She was sworn into the Mississippi House of Representatives in 2013, and services on several committees, including Universities and Colleges, Public Property, Performance Based Budgeting, Energy, and Agriculture. She is vice chair of the Local and Private Legislation committee.
