Helen Hansen Bell, 85, passed away Monday morning, Nov. 26, 2018, at Baptist Memorial Hospital of North MS in Oxford. Helen was the widow of the late James F. Bell.

Funeral services for Mrs. Bell will be held today (Nov. 30) at 2 p.m. in the Martin Willingham Memorial Chapel of Wells Funeral Home in Batesville with visitation beginning at noon. Interment will follow the service at Chapel Hill Cemetery in Pope. Rev. John Howell Jr., will officiate.

Helen was born June 4, 1933, to the late Earl L. Hansen and Anna Lahr Hansen in Council Bluffs, Iowa. Before retiring, Helen was the Executive Director for Mid-State Opportunities in Charleston. She was a member of Chapel Hill United Methodist Church.

The loving family she leaves behind includes two daughters, Jennifer Bell Booth (Bobby) of Pope, and Lisa Bell Box (Phillip) of Fulton; a son, Stephen M. Bell (Tracy) of Madison; a sister, Frances Mae French of Glendale, Ariz..; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, Helen was preceded in death by two brothers.

Memorial contributions in Helen’s honor may be made to Chapel Hill Cemetery, c/o Greg Boyles, 1966 Leslie Rd. Pope, MS 38658.

 

Andrew L. “Stanka” Farmer, 47, died Friday, Nov. 23, at Methodist University Hospital.

Funeral services will be at Cistern Hill M.B. Church at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 1. With burial to follow at Pleasant Green M.B. Church.

There will visitation today at from 4 to 6 p.m. at Felix Cauthen Funeral Home in Senatobia.

 

Shirley Ann Tubbs “Bittie” Floyd, 82, passed away Saturday, Nov. 24, 2018, at her son’s home in Batesville, She was the widow of the late James Dale Floyd.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m.  Saturday (Dec. 1) at Hosanna Family Worship Center in Pope, with interment to follow in Long Creek Cemetery near Courtland. The family will be receiving friends today from 5-8 p.m. at Hosanna Family Worship Center and also starting at 11 a.m. Saturday.

She was born Dec. 18, 1935, in Sardis, to the late Paul Best and Mattie May “Mammy” Geeslin Tubbs. She worked as a secretary most of life before her retirement.

 

Sarah E. Jackson, 84, formerly of Sardis, died Tuesday, Nov. 20, 2018, in Oklahoma City, Okla.

Funeral services will be held Saturday (Dec. 1) at 11 a.m. at McIvor Creek M.B. Church in Sardis with Rev. Willie Washington officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Jackson was born Dec. 22, 1933, in Sardis to Dan Burdette and Victoria Jones,

There will be a visitation Saturday from 9:30 to 11 a.m. at the church. Cooley’s Mortuary has charge of arrangements.

 

Carol Stewart, 71, died Tuesday, Nov. 20, 2018, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Southaven. There were no services. Coleman Funeral Home of Oxford had charge of arrangements.

Stewart was born in Miami. She served as a supervisor for the IRS for 18 years, and greatly enjoyed sewing and quilting.

She is survived by her loving husband, David Stewart of Holly Springs and a daughter, Wendy Underwood of Como.
