Dec. 1

The members of the Batesville Garden Club and Charleston’s Magnolia Garden Club will join together to present “Holidays at Herron House,” a National Garden Clubs, Inc. accredited Design Specialty Flower Show. The circa 1907 Herron House in Oakland will be decorated for the Holidays and the Flower Show will feature 40 floral designs, and also display artistic crafts exhibits, educational and youth exhibits. The Flower Show is free and open to the public on Saturday, Dec. 1 from 2-5 p.m. The historic Herron House is located at 5 Spruce Street,  Oakland, MS 38948.  For more information about the Flower Show and/or garden clubs, call Carol Bullard at 561-2348.

The purpose of an NGC Flower Show is to educate club members and the viewing public; to stimulate interest in horticulture and floral design; to provide an outlet for creative expression and; to communicate NGC goals and objectives. Everyone is invited.

Batesville Safe Shelter will have a bake sale on Sat., Dec. 1, beginning at 8 a.m. at Tractor Supply Co. on Hwy. 6E. Proceeds will raise operating funds for the shelter. For more information call 654-9419. Donations are needed – cakes, pies, or cash – to help with this fundraiser to combat domestic abuse in Panola and surrounding counties.

Dec. 4

The Batesville Christmas Parade will be at 7 p.m. downtown. Line-up will begin at 6 p.m. on Park St. This year’s theme is “Christ, the Light and Life of Christmas.” Contact Mark Shields at 934-1006 to register a float or other entry.

Dec. 6

The Town of Crenshaw will have its Christmas Parade at 6:30 p.m. For more information, contact Ruby Buck at 382-5623.

The Town of Como will have its Christmas Parade at 5:30 p.m. Call 526-9647 for more information.

Dec. 8

The Panola Mills Christmas Reunion will be at Nale down from Fred’s Dollar Store in Batesville from 7 to 11 p.m.. The name “Nale” is on the door. Cost is $20 at the door. For more information, call 934-5779.

Groovy’s Garage Promotions will host Delta Bluesman “Mississippi Marshall” at 111 Public Square from 7 to 9 p.m. on Dec. 8. Admission is $10 at the door for a what is billed as “sho nuff real deal blues.”  Part of the proceeds will benefit Wounded Warriors of Mississippi. For more information, contact Groovy at 934-0029.

Dec. 9

Dutch and Becca Van Oostendorp, owners of TriBecca Allie Café and Frog’s Pearl Station in Sardis will open their doors to all children and families for a Letters to Santa event on Sunday, Dec. 9 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.  The Oostendorps invite everyone to enjoy free hot chocolate and candy canes while children are writing letters to Santa. The couple said the event is meant to help get everyone in the holiday spirit, and provide a designated time and place for people to write out their Christmas cards while children complete letters. For more information, contact Liz Foster at 380-6316. A limited number of Christmas cards will be available for 25 cents each. Come enjoy the holiday music, fun, and fellowship.

Dec. 11

The Town of Sardis will have its Christmas Parade beginning at 6:30 p.m. For more information contact City Hall at 473-2371 or the Chamber of Commerce at 360-5001.

Dec. 15

The Pope Christmas Parade will be held Saturday, Dec. 15. It is sponsored by the Whosoever Church of God in Pope.  Lineup at Pope School starts at 3 p.m. and the parade starts at 4 p.m. The theme is Hometown Christmas. To register your float or entry, call Angie Taylor at 647-4134 or email actaylor_1@yahoo.com. Last day to register is Dec. 7.

The Panola County Alcorn State University Alumni will host its annual Christmas Gala on Saturday, Dec. 15, at the Batesville Lions Club Building from 8 to 11:30 p.m. The Oxford All-Stars will provide music. The public is invited. There will be an admission charge.

Dec. 16

A concert of seasonal and spiritual music 

featuring regionally known harpist, June Caldwell of Pontotoc, Sunday, Dec. 16, at 3 p.m. at Como United Methodist Church in Como. The public is invited to this free event. 

Ongoing Meetings

Panola County Alcoholics Anonymous meetings are held at Batesville First United Methodist Church at noon daily. For information call 234-8585.

Mondays

Gymnastics for kids is held 5-6 p.m. for ages 4-6 and 6-6:45p.m.for ages7and up. Class follows the South Panola school schedule. Call 710-6121 for information.

Al-Anon support group for family and friends of alcoholics that meets at 8 p.m. every Monday at Batesville First United Methodist Church will begin meetings on Friday at 7 p.m. in December.

The Sons of the Confederate Veterans meets monthly on the first Monday at 7 p.m. at Batesville Public Library. Call 934-6211 for information.

Domestic Violence Recovery support group meets. Call 654-9419 for information.

Tuesdays

The Panola County Election Commissioners meet the first Tuesday of each month at the Batesville Courthouse at 2 p.m.

The American Legion meets the third Tuesday of every month at the VFW at 5:30 p.m.

The Panola County Humane Society meets the fourth Tuesday of every month at the Batesville Public Library at 5:30 p.m.

Panola County Cancer Relief Organization meets the second Tuesday of each month at the Batesville Public Library at 6 p.m.

Thursdays

Batesville Civitans will meet every first and third Thursday at the Batesville Public Library at 5:15 p.m.

Batesville VFW Post 4968 and Auxiliary meets the first Thursday of every month at the VFW building at 6 p.m

Fridays

Al-Anon support group for family and friends of alcoholics will meet at 7 p.m. at First United Methodist Church beginning next Friday.
