Mack Robison is in awe that his photography hobby is causing a stir in the local art scene. A lifelong resident of Batesville, photography has been a hobby for more than 20 years since his children gave him a high-end Nikon 3300 camera for Christmas, but he only began making prints of his shots about six months ago.
His ability to catch the everyday scenes of life and turn them into much talked-about wall art still astounds him.
Robison was posting a few of his shots to Facebook when friends began asking to buy prints. When the Batesville Library called and asked to display his work, he said he almost hung up, thinking they Library had called the wrong number.
“To me everybody is making a big to do about nothing,” Robison said this week. “It’s my getaway. Some people fish. Some people hunt. I shoot all day long.”
And his shots have gotten more attention. When the owners of Bread and Butter, a new eatery currently preparing to open on the Square, called and asked to decorate their business with his prints, he was again surprised, but very willingly to help out.
The amateur artist said he has about 20,000 pictures stored on hard drives and is reviewing them to select ones for prints.
His work can be seen around Batesville and when Bread and Butter has a ribbon cutting and grand opening next Thursday (Aug. 9) from 5 to 7 p.m.
