ND looking to start out 2-0

By Brad Greer
With district play lurking right around the corner, the North Delta Green Wave will look to keep the momentum of last week’s 54-0 rout of Rossville, Tenn. going as they go on the road to Kilmichael tonight for a 7:30 kickoff against Montgomery County.
North Delta is hoping to get off to a quick start against the Hornets as they did versus Rossville after scoring on three of their first four plays from scrimmage while building a 32-0 lead after one quarter of play.
Kaleb Joyner had a field day for the Green Wave offense as the senior running back ran for 148 yards on four carries with touchdown runs of 61, 50 and 30 yards. Quarterback Cole Devazier accounted for 131 yards passing and two touchdowns.
North Delta head coach Mac Aldison is hoping his Green Wave can use last week’s victory as a building tool before opening up District 1-AAA play next Friday against Lee Academy.
“Offensively we’re just looking to improve as a whole and do the things we did last week and correct some of the small mistakes we made. We are still hoping some guys will step up their game and be leaders on this team. Naturally getting off to a quick start will be imperative,” said Aldison.
Montgomery County is led by former Pope Junior High head coach Al Dodson. The Class 1A Hornets dropped their season opener 47-0 to Noxapater.
Despite the loss, there is still some concern on the Green Wave part according to Aldison.
“Just by looking on film they have athletes that can run and that’s one thing you can’t teach. Our main goal on defense is to fly to the ball and contain them on plays to the outside. I thought we did a great job of fundamental tackling last week,” said Aldison.
The injury list that plagued North Delta somewhat in the season opener is slowly dwindling and according to Aldison with the exception of one or two players the Green Wave should be at full strength.
