This is the first time in school history a team has made it to the state playoffs.

The Lady Green Wave lost the first game of the North Half tournament last week to Deer Creek 6-4, but won four straight to advance to the championship round Saturday night.

Unfortunately, the face off with Bayou Academy ended in a 4-1 loss by the Lady Wave.

The runner up finish in the district gave the Lady Wave a home team placement at the tournament Wednesday. They will face Claiborne Academy at noon on the red field of Freedom Ridge Park.

The winner of this game will face the winner of the Franklin Academy/Central Academy game at 4:30 p.m.

The losers of these two games will face each other Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. The winner will play again at 6 p.m.

North Delta used all three pitchers in the four games played Saturday, Melanie Gaters, Mary Jane Morrow and Samantha Massoth.

According to assistant coach Preston Lawrence, Bayou Academy was the toughest team the girls faced in the tournament.

After dropping to the loser’s bracket, the Lady Wave had a long road ahead of them to climb back and compete for the championship.

Wednesday night, they staved off elimination with a win over Greenville-Christian 4-2 which set up the four-game spree Saturday.

“We never left the field,” Lawrence said. “We started at 11 a.m. and finished our last game around 6:30 p.m.”

Saturday morning, the Lady Wave opened play with Hebron Academy and won 1-0. In the second game, North Delta tangled with Kemper Academy and came out the winner 1-0.

The bats came alive in the third game with Macon Central. Gaters pitched the 8-1 win to put the Lady Wave in the championship game with Bayou.
