James Tommy Aldison Jr.
SLEDGE–James Tommy Aldison Jr., 82, died Sunday, September 2, 2007, at his residence.

Services were Tuesday, September 4 at Hollywood Baptist Church in Sledge. Burial was in Longtown Cemetery in Crenshaw. Wells Funeral Home had charge.

Aldison, born Aug. 11, 1925, in Tibbs to the late James Tommy and Decie Parrish Aldison Sr., was a member of Hollywood Baptist Church and a farmer of J.T. Aldison Jr. Farms. He was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII.

Survivors include: his wife, Frankie Harrison Aldison of Sledge; one daughter, Melinda Jear Aldison of Memphis; one son, James Tommy “Al” Aldison III of Sledge; two sisters, Mary Katherine Faust and Barbara Nell Dykes, both of Sledge; one brother, John Donald Aldison of Crenshaw; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.


Vira Jean Robinson Copeland

FRESNO, Texas–Vira Jean Robinson Copeland, 48, formerly of Batesville, died Wednesday, September 5, 2007, at Sugarland Methodist Hospital in Sugarland, Texas.

Services were Sunday at New Bethlehem M.B. Church in Batesville. Rev. W.L. Nash officiated. Burial was in New Bethlehem Cemetery. Cooley’s Mortuary had charge.

Copeland, born Aug. 21, 1959, to the late Wiley Robinson Jr. and the late Girtha M. Mackey Robinson, was a secretary for the IRS Administration Assistance. She was a member of the Alpha Omega Ministries in Sugarland, Texas and attended South Panola High School and the University of Mississippi.

Survivors include: two sons, Christopher Robinson and Brandon Copeland, both of Houston, Texas; two sisters, Vera Jean Robinson of Fresno, Texas and Eunice Davidson of Pearland, Texas; one brother, Melvin Robinson of Houston, Texas; her grandparents, Wiley and Rennia Robinson of Batesville and one grandchild.


Sybil Davis Jackson
LOUISVILLE–Sybil Davis Jackson, 78, formerly of Batesville died Thursday, September 6, 2007, in Madden at Hospice at His Hands.

Services were Saturday at Wells Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Ray Legge officiated. Burial was in Magnolia Cemetery. Wells Funeral Home had charge.

Jackson, born April 6, 1929, to the late Ozelle Hendrix Davis and T.J. Davis Jr., was a homemaker and a member of First Baptist Church of Louisville.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Robert Langard Jackson; one son, Michael Brent Jackson; one grandson, James Michael Jackson and two brothers, Billy Wayne Davis and Gordon Davis.

Survivors include: one daughter, Beverly Jackson Combs and husband, Bob of Louisville; one son, Robert Bruce Jackson of Newton; one sister, Maxine Davis Covington of Batesville; one brother, Donald Davis of Batesville; two grandchildren, Beth Stoots and Lee Combs, both of Louisville and three great-grandchildren, Barrett Jackson, Roper and Brayleigh Stoots.

Jessie D. Mayo Jr.
CRENSHAW–Jessie D. Mayo Jr., 60, died Sunday, September 9, 2007, at his residence.

Services are today at 10 a.m. at Pate Jones Funeral Home in Senatobia. Burial will be in the L.D.S. Cemetery near Crenshaw. Pate-Jones Funeral Home has charge.

Mayo was a security officer and a member of Hollywood Baptist Church in Sledge.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Teresa Mayo; one brother, Richard Mayo and father, J.D. Mayo.

Survivors include: one son, Victor Mayo of Senatobia; his mother, Grace Mayo of Sledge; three sisters, Faye Luellen and Jewel Robertson, both of Crenshaw and Louise Bayless of Senatobia and two grandchildren.

Carl Edward Ward
BATESVILLE–Carl Edward Ward, 68, died Sunday, September 9, 2007, at Baptist Desoto Hospital.

Services are Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Wells Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Jimmy Smith and Rev. Murphy Eubanks will officiate. Burial will be in Forrest Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be today 5 p.m. – 8 p.m. at Wells Funeral Home. Wells Funeral Home has charge.

Ward, born Aug. 9, 1939, in Drew to Myrle Brand Ward of Sardis and the late George Donald Ward, was a member of Assembly of God Church and was an avid  coon hunter. He was retired from American M-Hart of Clarksdale and served in the United States Navy.

Survivors along with his mother include: his wife, Diane Johns Ward of Batesville; one daughter, Carla Ward Collums of Senatobia; two sons, Greg Ward of Batesville and Benji Baxter of Greenwood; one sister, Betty Ward Mitchell of Southaven; one brother, George Perry Ward of Batesville; five grandchildren, Chastidy, Chase, Brittany, Clint and Zack; one great-grandson, Dallas Collums and a host of nieces and nephews.
