2 homers mark ND win; ladies undefeated in district

The North Delta Lady Green Wave continues its domination of district teams with a 15-0 win over Marvell Tuesday afternoon.

Samantha Massoth pitched  the no-hitter in three innings, striking out six, walking none.

Behind the arms and legs of Bradi Beard and North Panola transfer Victoria “Vicki” Johnson, the Lady Wave took control of the game early with a 10-run first inning.

The first inning was highlighted with a grand slam home run.

Beard hit a grand slam in-park homerun. With bases loaded, Beard’s ball sailed right over the hand of the Marvell left fielder. On base were Linsey Hebert, Johnson and Morgan Lawrence.

Johnson hit a ball that could have been an out and turned it into an in-park homerun. The ball bounced off the top of the glove of the Marvell right fielder and rolled to the right field fence.

Johnson almost caught teammate Hebert, who had doubled to get on base, in route to home plate.

North Delta scored two runs with catcher Courtney McCullar hitting a double and driving home second baseman Bradi Beard. Madison Taylor, courtesy runner for McCullar, scored on a single by Massoth.

With two outs, the Lady Wave rallied and scored eight more runs.

Getting hits for the Lady Tigers were Beard, three for three, one homerun, one single, one walk, four RBIs; Courtney McCullar, three for three, one double, two walks, one RBI; Lauren Tidwell, two for three; one double, one single; Melanie Gaters, two for three, one single, one walk; Samantha Massoth, two for thee, one double, one single, two RBIs; Hebert, three for three, one double, one walk;  and Johnson, two for two, one homerun, one single, three RBIs.

The Lady Wave hosted Marshall in non-district action Thursday, but the score was not available at press time.

North Delta will travel to Delta for a district  matchup Monday, August 27 at 4 p.m. Tuesday, the Lady Wave will be home Tuesday to host West Memphis Christian in district action.
