The Knights of Columbus volunteer organization is made up of men from St. Mary and St. John Catholic Churches, from Batesville and Sardis, respectively.

The group chose to help the  Special Olympics because one of the Knights, Patrick Harkin, helps with the event. He is an employee of the North Mississippi Regional Center and works with clients at the Quail Run Group Home in Batesville. Quail Run usually has about 20 participants in the Special Olympics, Harkin said.

The area games are open to intellectually disabled residents in Panola, Yalobusha, Lafayette, Tallahatchie, Calhoun and Grenada Counties. Winners advance to the State Games.

“We’d like to have more athletes from Panola County,” Harkin said.

Anyone who is interested can call  him at 654-1906.
