Water safety is for all

The Enid Lake Field Office has always put Water Safety as one of our top priorities.

With this in mind personnel are constantly looking for new ideas to promote water safety to every potential visitor to Enid Lake. This year Enid has expanded their water safety program to include a Water Safety Puppet Show at area libraries and water safety events.

This program was created to catch the attention of young students and children in helping Enid Lake park rangers promote water safety. Throughout the puppet show members of the audience are able to learn simple water safety tips to help keep them safe while participating in water related activities such as boating, swimming, and various water sports.

During the water safety puppet show Edith from Enid, Frankie the frog, Katie the catfish, Travis the turtle and Beverly the beaver discuss various water safety tips including: learn to swim, always wear a life jacket while boating, always swim in designated swimming areas, never swim alone, always have adult supervision, never depend on inflatables to keep you afloat, and always practice reach, throw, row, but never go when trying to rescue someone in trouble.

Spectators are also able to participate during the show by singing different songs to help them learn and remember these very important water safety tips.

Over the past couple of months Enid Personnel including Kathy Sullivan, Rob Hoff, Benjamin Pitcock, and Jackie Ferrell have been performing the Water Safety Puppet Show at area libraries and water safety events including: Coffeeville Library, Charleston Library, Water Valley Library, Oakland Library, Batesville Library and Grenada’s Annual Thunder On Water.

Throughout the programs Enid Rangers have educated over 2,000 people about water safety. The next scheduled Water Safety Puppet Show is September 22 at 10 a.m. during Enid’s Annual Hunting and Fishing Day.

The puppet show will be held in the Riverview Area located below the dam at Enid Lake. For more information on the Enid Lake Water Safety Puppet Show or if you interested in having the show at one of your events please contact the Enid Lake Field Office at 662-563-4571.
